I actually came across two Kurt Ralske releases within
the past few months - both of which i've been meaning
to comment on for several months:
. Kurt Ralske: amor 0+01 cd (Sub Rosa)
. Cathars: early bells & whistles lp (Atomic)
The first one, Amor 0+01, is a nice hypnotic drone &
glitch based release somewhat similar to the Cathars
releases on Miau Miau International a few years ago
but each track is much longer and drawn-out in an
Oval - do while kind-of way. Amor 0+01 also contains
some videos that Ralkse made for the release i only
viewed it one and didnt remember anything special
about them. As for the music, it too was decent but
nothing memorable. Nowhere near as good as his
Miau Miau releases. Amor 0+01 has been thrown on
the 'relisten at a later date' pile.
Unfortunately the Early Bells & Whistles lp (i think
i have that title right - dont have the lp with me on
the road) isnt much better but at least this one has
a reason for it's sound. The music on this album
was produced between the time of Ralske's indie
pop Ultra Vivid Scene and the Miau Miau releases
so the style on this one is one that is in the midst
of transition sounding like a primitive indie-electronic
hybrid. actually it's been over 6-months since i
listened to this one last but those were my
impressions at the time.
