----------------------------------------------------------------------- DJ Lazarus and feedback monitor present an evening of powerful electronic music live: SILK SAW [from Belgium : Ant-Zen Records & Sub Rosa Records] VROMB [from Montreal : Ant-Zen Records] ORPHX [from Toronto : Hands Productions & Malignant Records] DJs: FOE [from Montreal : Hushush Records] GREG CLOW [from Toronto : feedback monitor] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, April 7th, 2001 Holy Joe's (above Reverb) 651 Queen St. West, Toronto $10 at the door (includes admission to Dark Rave in Reverb) doors open at 10 PM - 19+ www.hushush.com/tour www.djlazarus.com www.feedbackmonitor.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ARTIST BIOS: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SILK SAW [www.silksaw.org] Silk Saw (Marc Medea and Gabriel Séverin) is a remittent duo who's trying more and more to translate in sounds an internal climate, the humming of the body singing of his own way, the basic vibration, deaf and omnipresent, but that words can't almost never formulate. then, music (in the ordinary meaning) doesn't have so much importance; remain only the impulse, the beating/recognition signal of the body. All this was already present in Jardin d’Usure, first project of those two noise makers, but without the "groove". a more dadaïst (more impertinent) process and in French, wich started in 1988. 1995. after (during) this adventure of Jardin d'Usure, the duo wanted to become different and to turn towards a larger scene, taking advantage of the opening made by new musical currents. At this original project, the duo added a more rythmic work. The result of these experiments was so different from what they did before, that they wanted to create another concept, titled Silk Saw. 1998. Ultraphonist, the third project of the duo, is the result of a lot of experiments in sounds without picturesque references. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- VROMB [www.ant-zen.com/vromb] A little is known about this artist hailing from Montréal, Québec. Surrounded by a halo of secrecy, Vromb gained a considerable success with his own musical universe. Ranging somewhere in between Esplendor Géométrico and Chrome, his music made of many references to Science Fiction has appealed the most difficult crowds from Europe and North- America. Very varied scenes such as techno, industrial and noise music gave to Vromb's two albums (the first on Tesco Records and the second on Ant-Zen both from Germany) the best reception possible. With only seven live apparances in about nine years of existence, Vromb has a reputation of being a hard to catch band. So don't miss your chance! Excerpt from Émission Pilote press release: "Despite the undeniable magic of monotony there is as well the soundtrack-like, dark science fiction atmosphere contributing immensely to taking the listener on a industrial, futuristic trance trip he / she will never forget. needless to say that vromb soundcarriers can be found on playlists of innovative underground (techno) dj's. Furthermore there's growing acceptance in vromb's work having composed score-like tracks for local film documentaries and tv specials as well as having contributed various sequences of music for underground movies already." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ORPHX Orphx was formed in 1993 by Richard Oddie, Christina Sealey, and Aron West to explore a mutual interest in experimental music and art. Early recordings and live performances were primarily improvised, using reel- to-reel tape machines, synthesizers, film projectors and various amplifiers and effects. These early experiments were documented on two cassettes and released on the Xcreteria tape label, co-founded by Oddie and West in 1994. The following year, Orphx, now a duo of Oddie and Sealey, began to complement their original "power electronics" approach with layered rhythms and more carefully processed sounds. Orphx performances began to incorporate more visual elements, combining original video montages with 16mm film cut-ups and slide projections. At this time, a side project called Antiform was also created to explore more subdued, drone-based atmospheres. Following a third tape release and various compilation appearances, the first Orphx CD, Fragmentation, was released in 1996 on Malignant Records. The success of this album, led to a new relationship with Germany's Hands Productions. The Nullity 10", was released by Hands in 1998, followed by the second Orphx CD, Vita Mediativa. These recordings signalled a new direction for the project, combining the basic elements of techno with the more experimental textures of previous recordings: deep drones, harsh noise, location recordings, and various found sounds. In the summer of 1998, Orphx organised a small series of performances in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. A second, larger series of performances was undertaken in the summer of 2000, including concerts in Scotland, Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic. This tour coincided with the release of a new 12", Surface. Using the sampled sounds of rocks and soil to create rhythmic structures, this 12" is the starting point for a new multi-media project. Sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Living Tissue project will use sound and video recordings from around the city of Hamilton, Ontario, to explore the sonic and visual qualities of urban life. A CD and video will be released by the Hands label in the very near future. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Greg Clow - greg@stainedproductions.com - greg@feedbackmonitor.com concert & event promotions - http://www.stainedproductions.com electronic music radio/reviews/interviews - http://www.feedbackmonitor.com 158 Close Ave. 2nd Floor - Toronto, Ontario M6K 2V5 - Canada --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
