I'm still reeling from the show last night, and hence I'm a little out of
sorts, so sorry if I keep this brief.
Pan sonic were fucking malicious last night. I was disappointed they
didn't use the visuals like they normally do.. but they sure made up for
it by using extremely high decibel low frequencies like large
blunt weapons... There were moments where the bass literally kept me warm
and made it difficult for me to swallow. If it weren't for seeing My
Bloody Valentine, I'd say this was the most sonically extreme live
performance I ever experienced -- more extreme than anything a
self-described noise act could wish, anyway. Several folks around me up
front vacated during the set...
Mogwai were fantastic as well. It wasn't too different than the set I saw
them do a year and a half ago during the Fall 1999 US tour. They did do a
few new songs, I'm guessing from the upcoming "Rock Action" album, that
sound really promising. This time though, they actually came back for an
encore.. They did do both "Helicon"'s... And they have a cellist on tour
with them, for those of you sappy for strings. My only slight bitch was
that Stuart would often sit on the floor for entire songs... which, for
the folks in front like me, wasn't a problem, but I can understand it
being a little frustrating for the folks in the back.
Regardless, see both of these bands live if you can.
