for purely dub tech - what labels besides: deep chord, verticle form, BC/CR, ~scape should I be looking at? I've gone nuts on the raum... and force tracks, but that stuff is more tech than dub, and while i love it and can't stay away, I'm just curious if I'm overlooking any prominent non-dancy dub type electronic labels. thnx :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Basic Channel is the source. Check out Basic Channel and all affiliations (Main Street, M, Imbalance, etc.) They pretty much invented it (in my mind, at least) and they pretty much do it best. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@curiousnetworks.com http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

clayton's cytrax label always does a good job. the farben, maus & stolle, and sikora releases on klang elektronik are also worth while. all the releases on maus & stolle's own Gadgets label are also good. Dont forget the Bluetrain and Thule labels either... here are the recent dub-tech-related releases that have been doing it for me: . Maus & Stolle: for your ears only 12" (Klang Elektronik) . Phon.o: typodub 12" (Cytrax) . Deepchord: 10 12" (Deepchord) . Andreas Tilliander: ljud cd (Mille Plateax) . Mikael Stavostrand: reduce cd (Force Inc) . Crane A.K.: pink eyed pony cd (Force Tracks) . Jan Jelinek: loop-finding-jazz-records cd (~Scape) . Exos: strength cd (Force Inc) . Actual Jakshun: basement displacement 12" (Incomplet) . Televazquez: almex 12" (Incomplet) . Jan Jelinek: tendency 12" (~Scape) . Farben: beautone 12" (Klang Elektronik) . I'm just curious if I'm overlooking any prominent non-dancy dub type electronic labels. Obviously I'd recommend Tennis, and will take this opportunity to announce that they will play in London on May 10th. philippe |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Thursday 10th may |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Live perfromances by TENNIS (Bip-hop/ECR/Spa.rk) BENGE (expanding/quatermass/sub rosa) SI-CUT.DB (bip-hop/fallt/background/spa.rk/sprawl) BITTONIC (sprawl) sprawl/expanding present a night of live music to celebrate the new Tennis album "Europe on Horseback" on bip-hop http://www.bip-hop.com. The Tendency 12" contains one track, Poren, not on the loop-finding-jazz-records album but that one track is worth the 12" alone. a nice deep dirty dub track - hence the dirty little name - poren. : ) -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There's a record which isn't related to the BC/CR family which I think is excellent and that's the Rapaccioli 12" on Vertical Form. You can definitely hear the influence of stuff like Various Artists and Monolake, but it's just really well done. I think it moves a bit more than CR stuff. The second 12 on Vertical Form is almost absurdly derivative of CR, and which certainly fits the bill of the more dub end of the tech stuff. It's a split between Rapaccioli and Agent Cooper (aka Pacou). One of the first track on the A side sounds so like Maurizio it weirds me out. It's a classic Maurizio groove - booming kick on the offbeat giving it that reggae accent. OTOH, Rapaccioli is involved with Leftfield, who have always had some reggae influenced tracks. So perhaps he was just going for a reggae thing and didn't realise (or care) how much it ended up sounding like someone else. The downbeat track is a bit more his own thing, and certainly has a major dub influence to it, although with a less reggae rhythm. The Pacou tunes both sound to me exactly like Various Artists. If I didn't know it was someone else, I would have thought Agent Cooper was another pseudonym for Various Artists. I like the way the music sounds, but there is something I find unnerving about music that sounds a lot like someone else. I guess I'm more interested in the concepts behind music than I sometimes admit to myself... *shrug* Michael -+- Involve Records http://involverecords.com Jet Jaguar MP3s (latest upload Nov2000) http://mp3.com/jetjag -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
