I don't mean to pick on Thad -- but isn't idm_mart@onelist (in the To: list of the original message) the right forum for these kinds of messages? Emailing idm_mart you get a group of people who have already indicated their interest in receiving sale lists. Whereas it's a lot of noise to me and others on idm. I'm prepared to listen to arguments from the other side. Well, normally I'd argue that an occassional "for sale/trade" message does really hurt anyone. Hell, I've posted such things myself from time to time. But in Thad's case, I'm definately in agreement, simply because I can't recall ever seeing a post from him that WASN'T a "for sale" list. Personally, I have nothing against fs lists on IDM - in fact, anyone who's been around more than a few years knows I've posted several myself. There are a few people who seem not to abide by list protocol (and these have been discussed/established in the past) when they post them. They are not supposed to exceed 25 lines at a time and are not supposed to be repeated ad nauseum and should be noted in the subject line. In other words, post the content once and that's it. If you need to do more, you can post a link to your own site or ask interested parties to email you for a full list. There shouldn't be repeated posts with the same content for sale - and adding a few things here and there so that it can be called "different" is an abuse of that protocol. I didn't make these rules, but I did inquire about them with people involved with list admin. at the time (Teep) and these were discussed more than once on the list. I know that at least one of the people who seem to be bent on abusing this was on the list at the time. Again, I have nothing against the posting of fs lists on IDM. I often buy things from people seliing on the list - but it is annoying to see the same abuses of protocol over and over by the same folks who don't take hints. In cases like this, these users would be much better suited for restricting their posts to IDM_mart. imo. jeff Lukas Bergstrom wrote:

Greg> **********************snip! In my defense, Greg, I *have* posted numerous messages unrelated to for sale/trade lists through the years (i have been a LONG time member of the idm list). Admitedly, when you add them all together, i do post many for sale/trade lists (i would say i average about one very updated list every two weeks or so). But this is solely due to the fact that I buy so much damn music, keeping only about half of what i buy for my "permanent" collection. This means my lists do change significantly from one issue to the next. As for the size of message issue, i am certainly not the only one posting more than 25 lines (this being the official guideline- thanks for the reminder!). I would happily post a web link to my full list, but i simply have not gotten around to learning how and finding where to establish a web page yet (yes- such people do exist!). I do plan to do this soon, though, and will in the meantime keep the updates within the 25 line official limit. I certainly do not mean to be an overall nuicance, and i honestly dont think this activity is *for most people* being such. I cant even tell you the sheer number of *happy* people ive traded or sold with through the years. This is its own testament for such activity. But speaking plain and simple, and this has been said before, if the message title says "for sale/trade", and you are not interested- simply delete or ignore the message. Please do not overly impose your lack of interest on the numbers of people who are interested and use such lists. I hope this all does not sound overly combative- i simply, being named and accused, felt it neccessary to lay clear my (and many others) perspective on the issue. soon to be investigating the easiest way to post simple web pages (any suggestions?)- -Thad on now: Hikuioto (B.
