I think Paradinas pretty much said it:
"Tatsuya has made a really sweet melodic album which reminds me a lot of my own stuff
circa Brace Yourself. A lot of Aphex elements too, but Tatsuya brings in influences
which can only come from him: Punk, Grindcore, French accordian music etc. Previous
release on Sub Rosa as most of ROM=PARI. ..."
I personally don't hear any/too much of a punk or grindcore influence, but the rest I
agree with. Very cutsey, lots of those nursery rhyme and/or video game influenced IDM
melodies and hectic rhythmic programming.
It reminds me a lot of that first Gimmik 12" on Toytronic.
It doesn't really point to any new directions for IDM or anything, but it's well done
and quite enjoyable nonetheless. Definitely not one from the stoic, heavy DSP,
Autechre school. :-)
I'd say if you enjoy "Hangable Auto Bulb"/"Richard D. James" era Aphex or Bogdan
Raczynski or Cex you'll probably enjoy this one.
I guess the name (Tatsuya Yoshida) must be a funny coincidence cuz I can't picture
the drummer from the Ruins making this kind of music !?
