wondering if anyone might be able to suggest something. feeling a bit funky lately and wondering if any one knows of any good sort of music that i can scratch my chin to while shaking my ass. i'm thinking maybe matmos meets basement jaxx or lexaunculpt vs daft punk-ish hope it exists. kind of like super_collider perhaps. more tiny sounds though. i like the sounds small and the beats squishy. gregory --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You might like Losoul's _Belong_ (Playhouse). It's very funky, minimal and hypnotic, but also has some weird production touches and an off-kilter feeling to some of the rhythms. It's guaranteed to move crowds. There's a nice cut-up of Bill Withers' "Use Me" as well. how about Wishmountain's "Wishmountain Is Dead" or for a bigger sound, Neil Landstrumm's "Pro Audio" and Surgeon's "Force and Form"? If you know Super_Collider you probably know Vogel's "Busca Invisibles" which is kinda brainy/funky. Flanger's "Templates" also, though not exactly danceable all the way through. "scratch my chin while shaking my ass"- i like that. carlos Larrywarshaw@cs.com wrote:

Must concur with those picks, Landstrumm & Surgeon, can't go wrong for some "chin shakin & ass scratchin" or how about some Tejada? - "Four inch faders.." Got Johannes Heil's 'illuminate..." damn that boy is all over the place on this one, kinda dubby & funky on some tracks, nice hiphop drops too -i --- carlos <angbase@usa.net> wrote:

Skint records has released a lot of angular funky electronic music in the past few years... like Req, Funkforce, Si Begg, or most of anything released on the "Under 5's" label.. There's always El Stew, and other treats on OM records. The "Deep Concentration" series always has winners... more on the hip hop/downtempo trip. And some recent Slabco releases by Sientific American (note the missing "c" in the first word), Buckminster Fuzeboard, and Dynomite D. and GOO! ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= On Sat, 10 Mar 2001, Irene McC wrote:

i gots the gear for you then: * maurice fulton, wet & sticky (transfusion) - amazing 3 tracker of squelchy, minimal house... incredibly funky breakbeat action that sounds more like matmos' recent house track on fatcat than any mainstream club fare. a must-have. * matmos, that track on the split with motion (fatcat) - much discussed around these parts, they reconfigure some dumpster-dived R&B cd into the best experimental house record in the last 12 months. i'm still itching to hear drew's solo record on herbert's label. * norken, soul static remixes (?) - maurice fulton mix once again nails it, permeating norken's sublimely chilled melodies with off-kilter breakbeats. deep, deep, deep. * blaze, my beat (derrick carter electric circus mix) (?) - really tight and minimal, it's got the same wobbly feel that makes the above so wonderful. phil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This will be hard to find since it was a limited selfdistribution but I'll throw it out there for the sake of those who might actually stumble apon it... "Those Pesky Bubbles" by Friendside Monkey, is possibly my favorite 'IDM Funk' albulm. It's (and I can't remember their names) two blokes from Durham NC, one doing 808 style short attention span electro with a bit of a Mouse on Mars feel, and a second playing the funky bass. Add to this the man behind the sequencer scratching through some twisted effects. Great fun. It has a track on it which my girlfriend has identified as (and I think I must agree with her), "soundtrack to female masterbation." Anyway, check it out if you can find it. They broke up a while back, but I'm curious if anyone from NC can tell me if either fellow is still making music.
