Okay, here's another survey question to drive all you list-purists crazy. (a girl's gotta have her fun) How old is everyone out there? Lots of people talk about the 21 yr old split (all the good listers are over it, all the bad ones are under it) and i'm curious to see just how old an 'old idmer' could possibly be. so if you're game, tell us your age. but don't go changing the subject heading and leaving all the previous messages at the end of yours. just do it nice like. k(23) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

now that we've established that the age split is about LISTERS and not listeners. I would suggest that how good of a lister someone is is reflected by how long they have been online and part of online communities. Obviously there are some old timer professional trolls but not as many as there are young people just getting on the net subscribing to 30 lists and sending crap to each every day. well i'm 23 i've been listenin to "idm" for quite a while now, living in detroit and growin up with the electrifying mojo and the wizard on the radio helped me out. also a program on canadian radio called "brave new wave" hosted by patti schmidt gave me my first glimpse into the experimental realm, years and years ago. Multiple bootleg mixes of her show were passed around amongst college friends here in detroit. I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a hold of Zammuto's Solutiore of Stareau. I tried emailing them at Apartment B records, but I didn't get a reply. Zammuto's got some amazing stuff waiting to be released. I recently heard 2 tracks he did for an upcoming compilation on Apartment B (APTB003) and they're unbelievable. Really well done sort of found sounds collages which go all over the place. I've also heard a sort of extended, gamelan flavored piece he created solely out of sounds collected from a shed, which made my jaw drop. I don't know where or when that's coming out. "Willscher" was great, but I think these new tracks show a lot of growth. Nick has a wealth of incredible ideas. Every time I hear one of his new pieces I'm in awe. http://www.apartmentb.com/news/ Andrei --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yeah "brave new waves" is a great show. Since Windsor was so close to Ann Arbor I used to get great reception. They have this K Records- infatuation kind of thing going, but I do remember hearing an interview with Mike P once which was great. isn't Brave New Waves based in Vancouver BC? And if so, can people in Seattle pick the show up on their radios?

Well, like someone just said, its outta montreal, but broadcast coast to coast on the CBC, innit? AFAIK, if you're near the border, you're probably within CBC reception range. I think. 21 year split? I dunno about that one. It seems to me a bit vague to define 21 + as "good listeners" (?) and 21 - as bad.... Just for the record though, if a good listener is defined as someone who pursues new and interesting sounds, and appreciates music beyond just drill&bass, or indeed any single catagory, then I consider myself quite the "good listener". I may be on the other side of the scale but I completely agree...It is not your age that deems you a good listener but the way you present yourself when discussing such a thing. I am not sure that age makes much difference when talking about anything related to music (I may be wrong) but I do know that it is always an interesting subject...I find that the People who listen to and appreciate IDM in my local area seem to be in the 18-22 range...however since there is a curfew in this town it is hard to meet anyone under 18 for any reason..most clubs in this town are 21 and up and it seems most smaller IDM events (non-Aphex Twin) don't get a very good turn out. I wonder if they were all ages events , if they would get a better turn out. Overall I would have to say...I'm interested but I won't hold it against you!! LISTER! not listener. as in idm list member. i wouldn't even dream of claiming or advancing a claim regarding the relationship between age and listening/appreciation ability. but the claim is that the bad list members must all be sub 21 (or 20 or 18 or whatever), not that i necessarily agree. just thought i'd investigate it. k
