The day Severed Heads is not considered IDM related discussion is the day I leave the list and pledge to absolutely never come back. (Barring the smart alec posts that will shortly follow..) Underrated, you bet. For the more angular, warped, less melodic, clicky stuff, too. The first three tracks off "Since The Accident": "A Relic of the Empire", "A Million Angels", and "House Still Standing" pretty much are prototypes for 75% of the recent artists we discuss here.. and that was done in 1983. The double track "The Bladders of Thousand Bedouin/Ayoomteyempt" off the "City Slab Horror" album is up there too. Most folks initially heard of Severed Heads through the later, more commercial sounding pop dance stuff later in the 80s and after. And some of that isn't bad at all. (I think "Rotund For Success" is a great album)... but it's hardly a good example of why Severed Heads are a pretty important band as far as IDM goes... More detailed followup on specific albums to come.. but there is a web page on sevcom.com that, I think, has Mp3s of almost all their stuff. I forget what it is, though... ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= On Thu, 8 Mar 2001, me makes you wrote:

I do agree completely.I've heard only one their album, 1982-83 I guess... Nevertheless, it was good and very list related...Non-commercial it is... peace Alien np. Proem - Burn Plate N1 - Exceptionally well done dark idm laid with heavy hypnotic crunches on beautiful melody soundscape... 9.9/10! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree with Brain on all fronts. SH has been a big influence on the whole IDM sound, and their most recent stuff, 'Haul Ass' (2000) is just a strong. I know they've been putting stuff out since the late 70's. I think Tom E. is a genius.
