question - anyone have the complete lineup from the 1999 event, or know if it's anywhere on the web? sure it was posted to this list at some point, but god knows how to dig it out of the archives since there's not really an active search function... just curious as they've finally posted the 2001 lineup at http://www.coachella.com. it's still pretty staggering, albeit way more commercial (fair enough, they're rumored to have lost a ton of cash of the first one) but i wanted to see how it compared to the 1999 one in retrospect. i was at the first, but saw so much amazing shit in two days i have a hard time remembering it all! would like to have that list for posterity's sake, if nothing else - so i can tell the grandkids all about koala cuttin' it up back in the day when i'm an old timer (ha...) any help/forwards/links appreciated. couldn't find it after a browser search or a rundown of the coachella site. cheers - brock ===== Brock Phillips Motormouthmedia 2525 Hyperion Ave. #1 Los Angeles, CA 90027 fon 323.662.3865 fax 323.662.3844 email bmotor@pacbell.net __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Coachella: Empire Polo Field - Indio, California October 9-10 1999 (2 of the best days of my life) Note: Comments have been applied in parenthesis next to those shows I attended. This listing has been painstakingly typed in from the little Guide book handed out at the entrances. Glad I still have it :) Also, somewhere amidst all of this, the legendary Black Elvis showed up with the Ultra Magnetic MC's and threw out bags of crispy chicken to the audience. Damn that was one of the sickest hip-hop acts I've ever seen. Kool Keith is the shit. I don't know which day or time though because it was a surprise performance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday Schedule: Main Stage Perfect Circle - 2:00 DJ Liquid Todd - 2:30 Bis - 2:45 DJ Raymond Roker - 4:45 Perry Farrell - 5:15 DJ Liquid Todd - 6:15 Morrissey - 6:45 Surprise DJ - 7:45 The Chemical Brothers - 8:15 (this show and accompanied visuals was just sick!) DJ Kid Koala - 9:30 Beck - 9:45 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday Schedule Outdoor Theatre At The Drive In - 1:20 The Bicycle Thief - 2:10 IQU - 3:00 Super Furry Animals - 4:00 Modest Mouse - 4:55 Art of Noise - 6:00 Spiritualized - 7:35 DJ Raymond Roker - 8:30 Underworld - 9:15 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday Schedule Mojave Christopher Lawrence - 2:00 (bumped into an old friend here that I hadn't seen in years) The Wiseguys (Touche) - 3:00 Simply Jeff - 4:00 (put on a superbly mixed breakbeat set) Cornelius - 5:20 Breakbeat Era with Roni Size, DJ Die and MC Dynamite - 6:40 (one of the highlights of the event - the live performance was outstanding and Leoni Laws vocals were so moving you just wanted to go up on stage and hug her) Jurassic 5 - 9:00 DJ Rap - 10:10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday Schedule Sahara Lunatic Calm - 1:00 Kevin Saunderson - 2:00 (great DJ Set) Derrick May - 2:00 (another great DJ Set) Juan Atkins - 6:00 (starting to get really hot in this tent!) Richie Hawtin - 8:00 (decks, fx & 909 of course - I got pictures!) I hope those of you that went had as much fun as I did. The word on the street and various publications is that Goldenvoice (the organizers) lost millions on this event. I believe that's why this years event is *much* more scaled down. sorry for the length of this post. That was around 4pm in the Gobi tent, IIRC. We were so pissed when we found out Bola + Jega were no-shows and this was one of the few things that made up for it. Kool Keith was so rad live! And i was impressed that he was standing in that fucking tent that was at least 110 degrees (no joke) with klieg lighting on him wearing a cape, plastic wig, and space man helmet. I would have passed out. In fact, i almost did that day from the heat alone. --sharon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Forgot to mention... Neotropic played right after Kool Keith and it was very funny when Riz Maslen stepped up to the microphone and asked "hmm, has someone been eating chicken up here?" --Sharon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
