This list is ridiculous. I highly recommend you all haul it down to the Barnes & Noble near you. The one near where I work (midtown NYC) seems to be the center of a forgotten library of old ambient and rave cd's. On the top picks list from B&N are "Kickin' Mental Detergent" incl Messiahs "There is no Law" from 93(?), also very hot are Moonshines 'Speed Limit 180 BPM' series which will put the fear into you like no Kid606 album ever could. And for the mellower folks, I might recommend the excellent ambient collections released on Waveform (geez, just dive into Hearts of Space and save yourself some time) IDM was already pretty codified by the time Warp released Artificial Intelligence 1. While there have been some interesting innovations in electronic music in the last 10 years, its all pretty formulaic. And it is good to know that Warp was the 4AD of the 90s. Arguing about the quality of a release detracts from the overall pleasure of watching (and/or participating) an abstract artform shape itself over time. ===== Peter Lasell - CTRL Design www.abattoir.com/~flint/ san francisco | brooklyn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Maybe some of you Hot Headed Idiots should get a sense of humor!!!!! A) StumbleCore was a joke!! B) This list of Intelligent listeners is divided into people who want to argue about everything, people who are interested in the music and would like to learn more, and Dipfthong (a guy who should just call it quits for this list, regardless of his intentions) C)Can we talk about music and not The Semantics of the Genre? ...so is my recommendation of Kickin Mental Detergent. Just wanted to point out that the cutting edge of music becomes the bargin bin purchase a few years later.

...it takes all kinds. arguing about music is often times like arguing about life.

... talking about semantics is an important way of talking about the genre. everyone has such subjective tastes, and musical forms and opinions change so rapidly, its hard to develop a language thats flexible enough to describe music with out using the same terms of "hard, pounding, driving, rubbery, shattered, abrasive, childlike, melodic, pumping, 100% club trax, TIP!!!!!" ===== Peter Lasell - CTRL Design www.abattoir.com/~flint/ san francisco | brooklyn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
