Just got the new Substancia 3 comp there's a track on it from Rip Off Artist. To me this person's music makes me think of Soul Oddity's _Tone Capsule_ added with Mono Tm Rip Off Artist also had a track on Substancia 2 anyone know when their LP will come out??? I will second the SubRosa comps recs.... I especially like #2. (haven't heard 3, but 2 is superior to 1 all around) as it varies from electro to microsound (Ensemble, this track is fantastic) and everything in between. As for Rip Off Artist, I just read earlier today about an upcoming 7" as well as a full album due any day now. I cannot recall the label, although I do remember it was NOT on subrosa/quatermass. I think I read it on the Bent Crayon emailing that went out so perhaps consult their site for more info? www.bentcrayon.com hope this helps matt

"A very fine 14 track CD by Mr. Matt Haines, this is nothing like the 7" release Why Do Birds Sing? also out on Hot Air, it contains NO whistling and instead sways back and forth between highly electrical surge spike rhythms and perfect serene electro-dub, quite often within the same track. If sometimes the more abstract noises in this release sound vaguely familiar that's because Matt is also responsible for much of Atom's (Rather Interesting) Kyma patch programming, ie; he made a lot of those weird digital sounds for him... Not to worry the rest of the CD has a catchiness all its own, sound so clean you can eat off it and more rhythmic twists, morphs and mutations per track than the wildlife surrounding Sellafield. Definitely a Brain of two halves." Folks.... Rip Off Artist is Not Atom Heart, it is, indeed, Matt Haines from the States. His 7" is out on Hot Air, and the CD 'Brain Salad Surgery' is due for release on 28/2/2001 also on Hot Air. Hot Air is Matt Wand's (Stock, Hausen and Walkman) label. Matt Haines has, however, worked on the production of sampling CD's with Uwe Schmidt. Cheerio, Shlom. ----------
