Hooty-too...quite a night! Let's go over this timetable style! 2:00- went looking for a new hat, something that says either "venice" or "hustla", no luck, had to give up and wear my silly beret. 2:30- arrive at mashup dwelling, obtain sound system, lift...lift, coordinate shit, drive to location. 3:30- drop shit off at the smell, have a bit of a time getting in but jizzm finally yanks the door open wit his chemo_clawz. few minutes later the sound guy shows up....emm...no comment there. : / 4:00- drive to mark's house, pick up mixer etc., those fools are playing dragonforce for saturn, LOL. 5:00- drive to santa monica, have dinner with the rents at real food daily (vegan organic food restaurant yummm!!) 6:00-8:00- mill around my house/get some zines 8:30- get to the smell, notice that there's a bunch of indie kids there (?!), sort out that they're there for some art gallery, wank about with daedelus and lee, first dj went on. mecha-mecha (mashup soundsystem)- this guy played some good tunes, all i remember was beta bodega and a bunch of techstepish stuff with some IDMy sorts in there too, i dug his set, plus this was when i got to fully take in the stage concept that the party had taken, which was fantastic, two monitors of visuals, raging sound, a bit of a delicate turntable/gear setup, but well done. luke-alien8- good acidish techno, fun if a bit repetitive. 10 maybe?- jizzm- this was a really tight set, all around rough breaks and kicks that were timed differently than you would expect, solid. this is when the hardcore thugs started to show up hehehe, they eventually got into it... 10:30 or so?- Mikrokroptka- mikro totally rocked it, my favorite track was towards the end, great fast hardcore, it was funny that all the gabber kids really liked her stuff but felt weird forming a pit cuz either she's a woman or she wasn't the headliner, oh well, great stuff. 12:00?- dj producer- i had fun, who knows, i like cheesey hardcore i guess, i just got tossed around in the pit while the bass kicked, later in his set he played some noisier records which were really nice, but distorted kicks would have topped it off. change-up was good though it was in typical 4 measure progression. ???- simon underground- more hardcore, more moshing, more madness! 2:00?- pthalocyanine- a shame he cleared the floor, for this was the highlight of my night, his music's just awesome...tonight it had a lot of techno kicks with distorted atmospheres and noise noise noise (where was chris??), violent for sure. can't fuck with his dancing sk33lz either.. 3:00?- daedelus- i heard most of this from the other room but it was very beautiful stuff, there were times when i just lifted up on my toes like a fairy and said whooo!! that's pretty. things got rough too...pretty fuckin good for such a tired guy (late slot!) 4:00?- gather up the system, haul that shit to mark's, get some fritos and lemonade at the gas station, drive home, find my roomate awake and studying (WHAT THE FUCK), go to sleep, off to wave twisters tonight i guess. i also picked up some records: paradinas on deathchant is alright, good kicks, but the DSP gets annoying, surprisingly listenable. bomb dogs on audio illusion- way too jungley...but still ok...traffik on epilektik- uh...ok kicks but way cheesey samples/amen manipulation. props to chemo_horde, ucla design crew, downtown la chaos and lancaster massive, fuck you to the taggers. down with the fucking amen, sko "The society that abolishes all adventure makes the abolition of that society the only real adventure." - Paris 1968 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
