I'm trying to clear something up - what exactly are all the different versions of the East Flatbush Project "Tried By 12" remix compilation, and what are the differences between them? As I understand it, Chocolate Industries released a CD version with all available remixes, and Ninja Tune released a 12" version with all available remixes and a CD version missing some remixes. Is this correct? Or do all the versions have all the same tracks? I'm asking because I recently saw the Ninja Tune version at Amazon.com & CDNow, and they both list all the tracks I have on my Choc. Ind. version. It's important to know (really!) for recommendation purposes (i.e., telling someone to get one version instead of the other)... Well, see, this is where it gets confusing for me (it would be easy if I could afford to just buy each version, but of course, I can't - Any Ninjas out there wanna enlighten me?). See, at http://www.ninjatune.net/ they list ZEN1275 (12") and ZENCDS75 (CD ) on one page, and they have this little side-scrolling page-in-a-page that supposedly lists the tracks on each release. The CD list goes like this: "Original Mx, Ko-Wreck Tech, Squarepusher, Autechre Mx, The Herbaliser Mx, Funkstorung Mx, Trapazoid Mx, Nick Fury Mx" - 8 tracks, all with Real Audio. So I do believe the CD version has just 8 tracks, especially since it's a "CDS" on Ninja's "Singles/EPs" page. That would mean Amazon and CDNow have it wrong, as they list all 12 tracks, and apparently for the Ninja Tune version. To make it more confusing, if you're at the Ninja Tune site and click to see what's on the 12" version, they list the same 8 tracks with RealAudio, but then they also list the other 4 tracks without RealAudio. I take this to mean that the 12" version has all 12 tracks, although I suppose it could mean that it only has the same 8 tracks, but for some reason they decided to list the missing tracks with the 12" information and expect people to know they're not there because they don't have RealAudio for them. Except that idea has to be wrong just because their description of the release also mentions the missing artists, so they must be on one of the versions, unless the description is including the Choc. Ind. version and just not mentioning that it's from a different label. So without buying them to check, I still think, unless someone knows otherwise, the Ninja Tune CD has only 8 tracks, the Ninja Tune 12" has all 12 tracks (somehow), and Amazon & CDNow are wrong to list all 12 tracks for the CD. Ninja responds... I have CD version in front of me... 1.original mix 2.Ko-Wreck Technique mix 3.Bisk mix 4. Squarepusher mix 5.Autechre mix 6.Herbaliser mix 7.Funkstorung mix 8.Trapazoid mix 9.Freeform mix 10. Nick Fury mix This is the US/Canada version. I'm pretty sure the UK version is the same, but saying that I recall there might be only 8 tracks on there's (it was so long ago). Don't have any of the 2x12" in stock but I'm pretty sure it has all 12 tracks. Sorry about our confusing website. It's being overhauled as we speak and a new version will be launching in the coming months. Jeff on 2/18/01 8:57 AM, Adam Piontek at damek@earthling.net wrote:

i have both the 2x12 and cd versions of the choc ind release, and they've both got all the tracks. i don't own the other version on either format, however i was told at the time that the xtra tracks were exclusive to the choc ind release... i forget exactly which remixes are the exclusive ones, but they included the phonecia & freeform remixes i believe. btw, the phonecia rmx is my current fave on that release. there's also a single 12" floating around too, a friend tells me. i don't have any info on that one. j __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? yeah, thats right. it was the freeform mix and the phoenecia mix that were only on the choco. ind versions. not the bisk mix like i mentioned earlier. i myself like the nick fury mix! 111 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
