OVERVIEW
Last year's Clicks + Cuts compilation made a revolutionary step into
the advancement of electronic music as anyone had yet to perceive.
The cut-copy-paste-funk of unessentialist sounds colliding with the
essence of electronic music's drive, has created a wave of influence
that went on to infiltrate genre's such as house, techno and
experimental electronic music. Arguably the first new genre of the
21st Century, click-electronics has been a focus of development with
the Mille Plateaux label, and continues to be a key aspect of the
releases it supports. Now, the second installment takes a step
further, inviting those that have played a key role in developing
this exploding sound(Farben, Ryoji Ikeda, Alva.Noto, SND,Geeez 'N'
Gosh, etc.) to some of the most progressive artists today (Swayzak,
Pan Sonic, kid606, Häkan Lidbo, Matmos, Rude Solo (Andrew Weatherhall
& Keith Tenniswood), etc.). This special priced triple CD (retail
$20.98 USD), moves one step beyond, the artists keeping to their
known styles of electronic music but incorporating and furthering the
clicks + cuts sound with their unique interpretations. Expect an
eclectic excursion into pop sensibilities, Clicks + Cuts 2 attempts
to expand the horizons of electronic music's boundaries with this
thorough collection.
ANDREAS TILLIANDER 'Ljud' CD / DLP
STREET DATE: MARCH 20, 2001
OVERVIEW
Enter the click-hop. Stockholm Sweden's Andreas Tilliander has
produced an album that is destined to forever change the perceptions
of click-electronics. With a prior album on Germany's prestigious
Raster-Noton label, Tilliander moves forward in producing an
essential full-length that utilizes the clicks, pops and crackles of
insensibility's, then molds them exquisitely them with the drive of
hip-hop, r&b and dub. Ljud is indeed an experiment in electronics,
however the groove dominates the rhythmetic patterns, truly a path
that only portrays the future of evolution in click. A captivating
album that will surely open the ears beyond the confines of
experimental fans, Ljud reaches to all listeners. Like nothing you
have ever heard but all so familiar, Tilliander is destined to open
the minds of many.
FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER 'Curve' CD / DLP
STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 20, 2001
"(Bretschneider) paints a compelling portrait of music pushing the
boundaries of 21st Century symphonics and the way we interpret sound"
- XLR8R MAGAZINE
"Rand (EFA 08070) is an extraordinarily dynamic work and it ranks
among the most captivating examples of electronic minimalism in
recent years."
- ALTERNATIVE PRESS
OVERVIEW
Frank Bretschneider is definitely one of the vital producers within
the global electronic network. A key member of the prestigious
Rastor-Noton collective (that includes the talented Carston Nicolai),
he has critically acclaimed releases under the names Komet and
Produkt. Bretschneider has created some of the most influential
spatial electronics of the late 90's, unlike so much output in the
microscopic music scene, his music has always flourished with
activity. Precise sound placement, volume levels and the contrast of
tones in Bretschneider's production makes his compositions uniquely
captivating.
Bretschneider returns for his second full length release on Mille
Plateaux. Curve takes a different approach that accomplishes the
sensibilities of minimalist pop music. A perfect musical body.
Bretschneider succeeds again in progressing the new age of laptop
production and delivers a stunning exhibition of sound.

FORCE TRACKS
It's been a busy year for this label. Minimal house, deep house,
micro house, whatever you want to call it has become a driving sound
that I am happy to say is totally infecting North America. Not since
Ian Pooley and Tonka has Force Inc. had so much soul...we're already
up to our 27th 12" release (ScSi-9 from Moscow) and recent 12"
releases by Häkan Lidbo, Luomo (who's album VocalCity has gone over
12,000 sold world-wide) , M.R.I. and Crane A.K. are definitely
keeping us in the DJ crates. Anyhow, the European Force Tracks is
running at full speed, Luomo debuted his first live performance in
Berlin January 20th to thousands and it continues with Crane A.K.,
M.R.I., Mathias Schaffhauser, and Luomo for the coming month. April,
the development of this label will surely reach a new level - Andrew
Weatherall has compiled and mixed his favorite tracks for us that is
being currently pressed on the forthcoming 'Hypercity' release. Read
below and contact myself respecting anything further about this
release or the label.
HYPERCITY - various artists - DJ mixed by ANDREW WEATHERHALL - CD
STREET DATE: APRIL 17, 2001
"Knight errant of the round tables for longer than most aging
teensters can remember, Andrew Weatherhall continues to come at us
from all musical angles with fresh vision. He's always one to twist
listeners ears to and fro with both his legendary DJ sets (dating
back to the legendary Shoom nights) and studio talent. Weatherhall's
production prowness ranges from his classic productions and mixes for
the likes of Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine to the current
moody electro-soundscapes as co-chair of Two Lone Swordsmen (Warp)"
- URB 01/01
OVERVIEW
Focused in developing deep house music, Force Tracks has risen to
become one of Germany's premier house labels. The term
'minimal-house' seems to be a popular term to describe the + 25 12"
releases that have been released - groovy, soulful bliss that has
massively infected the lounges to such massive clubs as Body & Soul.
Hypercity presents a unique compilation of the vinyl singles that
make up Force Tracks; a first of it's kind to be released in the
states. To make this compilation unmatched, one of the world's finest
DJ's has stepped up to do the job - Andrew Weatherhall.
A member of Two Lone Swordsmen (Warp), resident of leading London
club Turnmills, Andrew is responsible for some of the most
influential remixes of our time (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream,
Happy Mondays, New Order, The Orb, Beth Orton, and Bjork just to name
a few), Andrew Weatherhall always has come across in this dull as
ditch-water world of dance music as a refreshing and involving
character. It reflects tremendously on Hypercity; a definitive
overview of a new movement in house, showcased by one of electronic
music's leaders.
CRANE A.K. 'pink eyed pony' - CD / 3LP
RELEASE DATE: MARCH 20, 2001
OVERVIEW
Crane A.K. members Markus Gniech (DJ Knigge) and Michael Friedrich
have been an integral part of Berlin's minimal techno/house
community. In particular, Knigge is a regular DJ in Germany's leading
clubs. Taking his club experiences, Knigge molds his dancefloor
technique with Friedrich's attentiveness to production and sound. The
result is an experienced musical partnership that distictly resonates
their close friendship; minimal tracks based inbetween house and
techno soundscapes.
Pink Eyed Pony is an excursion into the details and different corners
of music but never leaving the synthetic character of electronic
music. The album swings from deep house to trip-hop, techno and
minimal house. As with many Force Tracks releases, Crane A.K. have
created an album both for the living room and the dance floor.
------------------------------------
FORCE INC.
In January, Force Inc. rolled into ten years of existence. One of the
founding German techno labels, owner Achim Szepanski has always had a
revolutionary idealism towards the development of electronic music
and continues to do so today, pumping a steady steam of techno
influenced sounds to a massively dedicated following. The label has
laid the foundation for such well respected artists as Alec Empire,
Mike Ink, Ian Pooley, Biochip C, Jammin Unit, DJ Rush, Thomas P.
Heckmann, Gene Farris, Porter Ricks, and Rob Acid. Today, Force Inc.
continues to set the standards for what is developing the new wave of
techno influenced music. Amongst recent releases from some of the
leading European minimal techno producers; Welt In Scherben, Auch,
Donnacha Costello, and Exos, Force Inc. has brought global attention
to N. American producers Stewart Walker, Jake Mandell, Tomas Jirku,
Sutekh, and Twerk.
The direction of the label stands clear, recent 12" releases by
newcomers like Ohio's Geoff White and Exos have proven point that
the label though known for experimentation, is more than capable for
providing a dose of DJ friendly techno for the dancefloors of today.
Expect more singles from DJ Rush, S.R.I., and Thomas P.
Heckmann...The albums continue to earn critical acclaim and surely
May 29th will mark a milestone of excellence for the label. Former
member of UK's legendary act LFO, Gez Varley (aka G Man) will drop
his first album in over 3 years. His reputation and experience makes
for an album of the utmost experience. Luscious techno that works
seemlessly in a flow of bass and percussion....expect some of the
best output yet from this legend.
ATLON INC. 'main things' - CD / 3LP
RELEASE DATE: APRIL 17, 2001
OVERVIEW
Atlon Inc. is the alias for veteran producer Rob Acid. Spanning over
10 years of releases, this German producer is responsible for a slew
of popular tracks and albums that have set the standards for the
dancefloor. He has also contributed two albums to the Mille Plateaux
label under the name Robert Babicz that have proved his ability at
creating moving soundscapes of art. Now, with Atlon Inc., he takes a
step further with a longplayer of luscious techno that is necessary
for any fan of the dancefloor. His 12" EP'S have proven themselves in
the clubs, his track on recent Force Inc.'s critically acclaimed
compilation met@music was hearlded by Revolution as 'the best track'.
Main Things is destined to prove that he still has it in him to dish
out some of the most outstanding techno today.
Mikael Stravöstrand 'reduce' - CD / 2LP
RELEASE DATE: MARCH 20, 2001
OVERVIEW
Stockholm, Sweden's Mikael Stravöstand represents the first of many
new Scandinavian talents that will emerge in the Force Inc. family
over the course of 2001. Stravöstand is a key figure in the Swedish
electronic scene as a long-time event organizer, sound installation
artist and label manager of the underground Mitek label. Over the
past year, he has performed continuously that included a successful
32 date North American tour. He has releases and contributions on
labels Tigerbeat6, 12k and Mitek
Reduce continues Force Inc.'s development of click-techno, where the
unessentialist sounds of glitches, crackles and skips infiltrate the
structure of minimal techno's 4/4 drive formula. Stravöstand emanates
a unique approach to compositions, taking interest in the use of
randomness and the unexpected towards his methods of working. Reduce
is a very visual and natural project; deep, dubby techno mingles with
the glitchy pulses and beats. The result is a perfect order of
balance and harmony for the listener. Stravöstand presents a new
platform for dance music.

POSITION CHROME
The drum 'n' bass monster continues stronger than ever. Panacea's new
album 'German Engineering' has been a big success, he has been
performing continuously with label mate Cativo in support of the
album across Germany and plans are for a spring US tour. The
forthcoming collaboration album with Cativo and also a 'German
Engineering' remix 12" are sure to continue the tradition of drum 'n'
bass fury, PC is so well known for.
PANACEA + CATIVO 'the hardest tour on planet earth' - CD / 4LP
STREET DATE: APRIL 3 . 2001
"Panacea's made quite possibly the finest post-jungle full-length
that stays true to it's dark scattered roots" - MIXER
To celebrate the successful (and continuing) world-wide tour, Panacea
and Cativo unite to provide a relentless collection of new mixes and
tracks that definitely move the Position Chrome sound into the 21st
Century. Explicit drum 'n' bass of the hardest form, the pair
exchange some of their recent popular tracks and impale them with the
individual styles they are so well known for. As well, The Hardest
Tour On Earth provides collaborations and new material exclusive to
this album, plus an MPEG video that features video clips of the tour.
