<cut> I think we need to stop relating everyone to autechre, or other warp = artists, let's face it, the industry's best are now led by a bunch of 20 = year old kids with computers, just ending puberty. I don't even consider = Scott Herren part of warp, I think he just signed with them b/c they = went after him, he is really a hefty/schematic boi! We need to start = comparing everyone to people like lexaunculpt/hrvatski/delarosa-asora, = etc. I mean, only BOC seems to be keeping up with thei industry on warp. = Wait, tiny reminders was the shit.=20 <paste> ***************************** coincidentally, i've just finally gotten around to listening to both the new BoC (beautiful place) and the ae peel session 2. wow, track 1 on peel sessions reminded me why so many people worship them. they load such beauty into their melodies without coming off sentimental or melodramatic. as with much of their new material (although you seem to be implying otherwise with the upcoming album?) there is virtually no repetition (moreso on subtle levels), with clearly defined and differentiated sections linked by elegant transitions. that acoustic sounding string sample that solos just before 5:00 is so badass... (some sort of asian instrument? open piano string being plucked w/ the pitch bending/vibrato added later?) and make sure your bass is cranked up so when the beat comes in at 5:08 you're really impressed. the really fuzzy stuff at 7:30 (the end) sort of bored me though. track 2... damn. great sounds, subtle changes... love those classic sounding claps & sortof hilarious vocal samples, the tune that comes in at 5:00 is just in time to revive my interest in this relatively static track. track 3 i liked too... the beat that comes in at 4:20... ok, getting bored talking about ae. anyway, i was sorely disappointed by the BoC. the gimmicks they've been using all along became more apparent to me. very dissillusioning. (sp?) god, i was sort of unquestioningly in love with their material back in the day. guess i still am in a way, but i'm not sure i understand why they didn't try to do something new... different sounds/synths or something? they get away with such uninteresting melodic ideas just by using that sh-101 or whatever they use for those gorgeous synths. the last track was what tipped me over the edge though. man, the chord changes were so generic... like, appregiated stuff that your hands instinctively play on a keyboard out of habit and you fight against. and it just kept going on and on, like it was supposed to be such beautiful material that we needed to hear it forever. i guess the last track is my only really big gripe with that release. i don't agree with any of your choices for "industries best". particularly the pubescent boys. in fact, alot of new young stuff is really annoying to me. this is all just opinion of course. and i don't think BoC is "keeping up" as you say, i think they've stagnated for the moment. deep down i still love BoC, and have great hopes for their future. honestly, they've made some of my all-time favorite edm songs. i appreciate their willingness to go for the nostalgic and no-frills melody etc. j __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
