Dood, you listen to the "Agony" cd yet? It is amazing, very very good stuff. I well def check out the Machine Drum, but give the new Delarosa releases a listen, just crazy good. Either Herren has a hefty back stock of material or he tracks 60 hours a week; so much going on. Cant wait for the Prefuse full length or the Samadha full length (if Herren continues to work with them, as he did with the IA(#5?)). I have to say that parts of "agony" would impress John McEntire because he just perfects the "Chicacgo-postrock" style, but more, i dont know, emotional (uh-oh, not "emotional" again). Now that was a useful piece of info, the machine drum shit is hot to death, I just went to website and listened to the snippets, I must have this! I have a feeling its not a vinyl release which makes me sad. You're definitely right about them coming close to the prefuse style of clip hop. Its funny but as we've all said "this or that sounds like autechre" I get the feeling scott is going to be one of those types of situations. He has definitely innovated past the tried by 12 phase of mixing idm with hiphop. his dj set on the warp site is really good as well, gives a good sense of where he's coming from ____________________________________________ p l u m b d e s i g n Adesh Deosaran | Information Designer 157 chambers st ny ny 10007 p.212-285-8600 x240 f.212-285-8999 -----Original Message----- From: Ben ine [mailto:warpfan@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2001 12:22 PM To: ipojman@jmlafferty.com Cc: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] re:machine drum cd - merck (boc, pbo, p73 Dood, you listen to the "Agony" cd yet? anyone know what this 10 track of Prefuse 73 mp3s I've found is? It has the tracks from the EP plus some others and is ~27 minutes long. No tracklisting, but some of the tracks are definitely very similar or identical versions as the 4 tracks on the EP. One of the tracks is based off some pretty obvious samples from Erykah Badu's "on and on", and the other tracks sound like they have similar vocal samples too too though I cannot place them. They are very simliar to the stuff on the EP. Was this an earlier version which couldn't get cleared for sample reasons?? it sounds the same quality or better as the stuff on the EP.....

I kind of disagree with him innovating all that much compared to the Tried By 12 remix type stuff. I really enjoy his stuff, but it's funny that there still isn't anyone except for a few songs on that Funkstorung album that are mixing *understandable* flows with more interesting beats (that I've heard....if there is more please let me know!). The stuff on the Ep is still stuck in that sampled vocals as a sound effect stage, which is nice, and I do enjoy his tracks. However, I'm yearning for stuff that is actually more in the direction Funkstorung (or that one track of the new Kid 606 album, with MIke Patton, which was awesome) went. Those tracks were great because the vocals recorded for the project, and an integral part of the development of the song. Apparently Pref73 is going in that direction for the album, so I'm eager to hear how it turns out. I thought it was funny the warp main page said a while back he was "rebuiling hip hop from the roots up" or something ridiculous like that.....I hardly call sampling other hip hop records building from the ground up. I consider the Mantronix stuff with just the drum machines and the synths one of the few people that could fit that description, actually creating their own beats and not relying on sampling for everything. -Bill

I second the agony recommendation. Track 10, "Pax Suite 4" is amazing. It evolves into a really beautiful acoustic guitar bit. There is actually a lot of organic instrumentation (mainly guitars actually) on the album. Definitely get this one g. On Thu, 15 Feb 2001, Ben ine wrote:

I think the MC's who are going to be on the LP (MF Doom & One of the Anti pop Consortium Heads (Anticon?) who else?) just sent him some tapes with some flows on. and he plans to chop them up pretty much the same way as with the EP. Sam Prekop is also suposed to be working on the album which seems a bit strange, anyone know anything about this? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm pretty sure Merck will release a 12 with selected tracks from the cd eventually. They did that for the Syndrone and MD releases (the only two releases they've put out besides the compilations). So I can only assume they'll do the same for Machine Drum. I thought the Machine Drum track on the Squadron compilation was decent. I didn't really like Squadron as a whole though. Only a few tracks stood out (mainly the one by Syndrone). The Syndrone albums is great too. So MD - Appelsap (btw, "MD" is not an abreviation for "Machine Drum," it's a whole different artist). But you can download the 11 untitled tracks for free here: ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/music/artists/md/mp3/ I've heard good things about Aurora, but it hasn't actually graced my ears yet. I just ordered it today :) -char _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

correction: yes. Syndrone's 12 was a joint release between Merck and Djack up Bitch, not Djak up Bitch alone. The MD 12 is on Merck (alone) and it contains selections from the CD (which happen to be the remixes of the original 11 no-titles). ;) yeah i agree, everybody get Appelsap, but of course download it first from ftp.scene.org to make sure you like it :) i'm really looking forward to MD's next album, hittin next month. Appelsap was released on scene.org long before it came out on Merck. so it was kinda outdated to begin with (which doesn't really hinder its greatness, but still.. just worth mentioning). the album hitting next month is all brand new material, so git down. -char _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
