hello friends, I've been reading this list for a few months and thought I would say hello. Right now I'm doing a second semester abroad (originally from Syracuse, NY) in Japan, at a university called Kansai Gaidai. I'm living near Hirakata, which is basically right between Kyoto and Osaka. This country's public transportation system is really excellent, so that whenever we get bored we can just hop a 30 minute train in one direction or another and be in the middle of a big city. And there zillions of tiny clubs, which I'm trying to get out to more this semester. Last night I saw Cylob, Freeform, LYO25 and many others in a club called the Metro in Kyoto and it was a really fantastic show. I'll post a review of it later on. But I'm writing this email wondering if anyone else on the list is currently living in japan? Its very hard to find out what's going on at the clubs, as you have to rely on randomly finding flyers outside stores. I found the pile of Cylob/Freeform flyers on top of a gumball machine outside a tiny clothing store, and didn't see them anywhere else. It was a lucky find, so I'm afraid there are tons of shows that I'm missing here. Are there any big IDM fans in japan? Any suggestions of clubs worth going to and shows worth seeing? Also, can anyone recommend any japanese IDM/electronic groups worth listening to? I go to record stores and see rows and rows of japanese artists I've never heard of, and I'm sure I won't be able to find them when I get back to the US. What should i look for? I'm going to be in japan until the beginning of june, so if anyone on this list is in japan, drop me a line and maybe we can get together sometime. Gaikokujin or nihonjin, lets get together and bump some ongaku! :) Peace tim --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'll definitely second philippe on Bisk. "Ticklish Matters" is my favorite, but definitely check out both "Time" and especially "Strange Or Funny Ha-Ha". Both of these are getting _very_ scarce on this side of the pond. good call on the worm interface. :))_) another interesting nihonjin is Yoshinori Sunahara. I believe he has work released on Bungalo, amoung others. http://www.bungalow.de/artists_solo.html?19 I would suggest the "Pan Am- Sounds of the 70's" for a nice hip-hop/jazz influnced workout with interesting nice sounds and idm -ish production. also, his concept album put out a few years back entitled 'Takeoff and Landing" has onit a few interesting tracks that many of the list would enjoy, i think. it is about an airport that exists underneath shinjuku, tokyo. fun stuff. http://y-sunahara.com/ ????nice sounds http://www.wam.umd.edu/~xine/links/japan.html http://www.newsbase.co.jp/aweb/index.html http://www.soniteku2.org/ ganbatte kudasai:::> best, ric h
