I'd also like to hear a review of that Savath + Savalas disk... but as for Speedy J: it's a departure from public energy No. 1. "A Shocking Hobby" is darker and more intense...much so. I love his earlier stuff, but it's still taking some time for me to explore this one fully. I'm not usually into darker, schizophrenic stuff like this but it's definitely quality. He's brilliant and if you like his stuff, you'll probably like it...but expect it to be darker. Vague, I know, but maybe you'll get a better review from someone else... ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. to sum up: if you like tortoise you will like savath and savalas ... which is not to say it's simply derivative of tortoise. there is definitely influence there, sometimes (i think) it gets in the way a little bit, but it's good enough to stand on its own merit for sure. i'm a big fan of everything i've heard by scott herren (savath+savalas, delarosa+asora, prefuse73, communications project) ... savath is definitely his most "easy listening" release so far. definitely pick it up, especially if you are ready to hear a record that bites somebody other than autechre's style :) backhandedly, josh On Mon, 29 Jan 2001, Gause, Brian wrote:
