too weepy-minor or what? it has a bit of that downwards minor progression
that was in every slowdive song, but I thought he mixed it up enough to
make it work. I was ready to strangle that slowdive guy after listening
to Souvlaki in one sitting.

Well...don't necesarily agree there about sound design in general -- there's
a lot of nattering noises built up in an interesting sort of soundscape,
and industrial grating noises mixed low. For my taste though, he needs
to either use a much better piano sound, or a much more artificial sound
instead. The pianos sounded best when he processed the crap out of them.
They sounded kind of "sound card-y" when you can hear them clearly.

Again it's not necessarily on rhythmically but I like things to get
occasionally messy, and that business comes in just when I'm tired of all
those hard quantized piano parts.

Again I kind of liked that to contrast with the straightness of the
rest of the harmony. But then I always was into the "wrong is right"
aesthetic.
