just to add my take on a few things that have been going on the last few days:
- kompakt total 2 was a really weak release. it had some good stuff but overall
total 1 was much better, as was shaeffelfeiber. i think the best release on
kompakt to date though is dettinger's oasis [amazing and not the standard
kompakt stuff, one of the best albums of 00].
- the new[ish] nobukazu takemura 12" on thrill jockey was a bit disappointing
for me. this guy has done some amazing stuff but this didn't thrill me
particularly [sorry about the pun]. the really long chicago collaboration on
the b-side was, well, really long [ie not exciting]. it's different from his
other work, yes, but not in a particularly good way.
- mokira cliphop was mentioned and i must second the recommendation, as well as
agree that snd's newest venture is a bit tired [although the 7" on city centre
offices is absolutely amazing if you play it at 33].
- as for the person looking for nice chillin electronic stuff
[vuzh@peakpeak.com], here are some things from the last few years any
collection should contain:
dettinger - oasis [kompakt]
bola - soup [skam, an absolute classic]
novel 23 - melodies of childhood for advanced imagination [pitchcadet]
arovane - tides [city centre offices, mentioned enough already on this list]
as mentioned, BoC [esp. ska008, what i think is their best]
talked about lately as well, yunx - meson octet & split with datathief
[pitchcadet]*
to rococo rot - the amateur view [mute]
isan - beautronics [tugboat] & digitalis [liquefaction empire]
lackluster - a lot of his stuff is available from monotonik [a good site anyone
should check out, by the way, lots of great mp3s, esp. proem's too many
cookies], but especially foc 349 his 12" on (de)focus.
well these are the ones that come to mind. this should give you some ideas.
*the datathief side is amazing, although it sounds an awful lot like gescom.
listen to the first track and then key nell 1, or the third one then go sheep
and you'll see what i mean.
that's all for
me.
