It was a few months back when I asked for suggestions for harder/noisier things along the same lines as Somatic Responses or Imminent Starvation. I got a handful of responses and in the time since then have persued some of them. But it's been frustrating in that they've seemed to fall for the most part into the dreaded drum 'n' bass catagory. Venetian Snares, Dj Scud/Aphastic/Ambush Records, I even found an Atomly 12" out here in LA- not all bad, but still not exactly what I'm looking for. So if anybody has any leads to non-dnb artists with a serious evil streak in 'em, I'm all ears. Is there anything out there which is like a cross between Skinny Puppy, Speedy J, Speedranch Janskynoise and Richard Devine? Ya, I know, sounds like a bit of a pipe dream, but thought I'd ask. I'm also still on the hunt for all the old Richard Devine 12"s as well as the new Surface 10 cd because from what I can tell, they might be right up my alley. Much thanks. Check out anything by Laurent Ho (AKA HO.EXE) and anything on Uncivilized World... It's basicaly hard, noisy techno... Very good stuff (and he's an amazing DJ- see him if you get the chance). You might also like some older Doormouse or Unibomber stuff (before they started doing dnb) which just got repressed (http://www.angelfire.com/boybands/addict) and would probably love a lot of the stuff that Bombardier has done... Check out his new mix CD which on Low Res... It should be coming out soon and it's awesome: http://www.lowres.com/d13

Pretty much all of the harder stuff now has moved into a D&B style... People could only tweak the filter on a compressed 909 kick for so long before they got bored. :P

Yea, that would all be breaks oriented stuff... Try Scud's release on kool.pop from last year, that's less dnb and more straight up hardcore.

Do anything to get the Richard Devine "Polymorphic EP" on SixSixtySix. Actually, pick up anything on SSS- you'll most likely like it. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@curiousnetworks.com http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hrvatski is kinda like that sometimes (maybe not too much Skinny Puppy). Actually the Hrvatki album that's gonna come out on Planet-Mu will have some really aggressive stuff. Coil very diverse, but makers of some of the most gut wrenching music out there. Nurse With Wound also very diverse. Masonna, Maldoror, Merzbow. Blectom from Blechdom is also quite interesting, kid 606 also makes some pretty hard stuff. Muslimgauze, mego, v/vm. A lot of those artists have pretty diverse releases but are definetely worth checking out. My favorites probably being v/vm (nothing gets weirder) and Coil. ===== -- -dave "I went to a restaurant that serves `breakfast at any time'. the problem I have with pounding grooves is they all end up sounding the same...kinda what turned me off to drumcode and subsounds and that sort too...but those are good labels to look at too...for a little bit, future frontier has stuff along those lines as well...but this is all swedish techno...umm...Oliver Ho is fairly dark, really dark...but not neccesarily hard...but hard enough...Blueprint is a good label to look at...Meta too...I got something from a label called Convolute, which is really good, dunno what the rest of the label sounds like, but look out for it...Plastikman? the new PK single is really hard and really dark...Light and Dark(another Oliver Ho label)more good hard stuff...this is just off the top of my head...uhh...yeah... josh23 --- "alland[byallo]" <alland@humbledesign.com> wrote:

Check out anything by 2ND Gen. He's a got at least 2 records out: 'Against Nature' on NovaMute and one more on an Australlian (?) label called 'Flo'. I don't know if these records are still available (both were released around 97-98), but this is what you need: harder and noisier than 'shocking hobby' and without any signs of d&b :) Cylob's "Industrial Folk Songs" on Rephlex also a classic braincrashing record. 2nd Gen's debut album, Irony Is, comes out 20 Feb. on NovaMute. I highly recommend it to those who like the kind of music mentioned above. The And/Or EP that precedes it has wicked remixes by Techno Animal/Dalek, Buckfunk 3000 and Cold Kid.
