I have a Compaq PIII-500, 30 gig HD and 256 RAM. I'm using Wavelab 2.0 to master my mix CDs but I keep running out of memory. The CDs are about 70 minutes long and whenever I try to edit the .wav file it can never save it -- the program tells me to switch windows from running my virtual memory. My computer is kind of tweaky and I rather not start messing with windows settings. Can somebody help me out here? How can I successfully work with files that big? Is Wavelab 3.0 more stable? Does anybody know where I can get a copy? Please backchannel all leads to me. There are a few things you can do: 1. Get a utility like Rampage (I use it) to periodically recapture Ram. Windows programs are not all coded well and sometimes do not release occupied Ram after termination. You can set rampage to free ram if it falls below a certain point. For your situation, I would install it, and before loading the >wav, manually free asmuch ram as possible. You will notice that even after a fresh boot up, there is loads of RAM that can be freed. I usually boot up into 30 megs of ram, but can free up to 80 (and I only have 96!). 2. You can try fooling with the virtual memory settings. Right click on "My Computer" and select properties. Head over to "Performance" Disallow Windows to automatically manage your memory and select a shitload of Hard Disk space. Like you, I hesitate to f*ck with the memory settings since Windows does a pretty good job of handling it (as far as I can tell). All in all, try #1. I use it just before any CD-burn...just in case. If you want, I can send it to you through e-mail. ...(Sunspot).... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
