Yeah.
So I'm listening to the new Bo Square record on Tino Corp. right now.
Pretty damned good. Very MBM-ish... like a lot of the tracks on _Actual
Sounds And Voices_, but with more little weird bits and sounds. I know Mike
Powell is behind the samples and tweaks and bloops and space sounds, so it's
gotta be good. I remember him walking around before and after the Meat Beat
Manifesto shows here in Florida last time around with this little hand-held
tape recorder playing us these weird Brian Wilson interviews and stuff. I
figured he would somehow incorporate sampled-bits of dialogue into his
music, and i was right. I like it.
I love the theremin work on "Outer Space Suite", although honestly I
could do without the sax. Too jazzy at some ponts... but i hate jazz, so
ignore me please. The sped-up d&b mixed with the sax really reminds me of
T-Power. Again though, the theremin is the stand-out. I think I like the
song "Numbers" better. Very nice low-end bassline throughout.
Overall a very good record. I would certainly like to hear a
full-length from Mike in the future. The record is called _Outer Space
Suite_ and is by Bo Square. Bo Square is: Mike Powell (of live MBM), Jack
Dangers (of MBM), and Marshall Allen (of Sun Ra Arkestra). For more info:
