If the evolution of Autechre over the years is not an IDM topic then I don't know what is. I prefer those threads to "check out my playlist" or "here's my FS/FA/FT list" or "here are my reviews", etc.. I don't care about that stuff at all, though I'm sure a lot of people do. Not to sound like an asshole (though I undoubtedly will), but playlists and reviews from this list have no influence whatsoever on what records I choose to purchase or listen to and I delete those posts on site. I love it when people make it seem as if the only things that should be discussed on this list are "check out this cool (& obscure) record I know of" and "check out this show". Just use your delete button and please don't try to dictate what should be discussed or not.

Hey, that's interesting. You want people to stop reviewing stuff? Don't you know that this list is present exactly for those purposes? I do listen to opinions of some people on the list and many records I buy are derived from reviews on this list. I do make my small reviews as well. You hate those? That's ok but I once received letter stating that my reviews were useful for someone - I think that means I did some good with it. Please stop telling people what to do or you'll end up telling it to yourself only. btw I hate FS/FT stuff as well... Ya know what's funny? That it seems that some/a few/lots of people on this list consider somebody else expressing a differing opinion as some sort of personal attack. "Windowlicker is crap." "F*** off. Windowlicker is genius!" "No, you f*** off. Windowlicker IS crap!" Does nobody realize that we all have different tastes and NONE of them are right and NONE of them are wrong? And it sure would be nice if some of these threads were taken off list. I really don't need to read volleys between two people bickering over the evolution of Autechre over the years. Take it off list. If you have something that you think everybody should know about, please, by all means post it. It's what the list is for and why I subscribe. Thanks. This is a pretty good position for Dubya style consensus building, but as a critical stance it sucks balls. "Taste" is an expressed dis/like with no articulated reasoning behind it. Since nobody bothers to dig around its roots, there's no ground for meaningful discussion. Even though I don't necessarily agree with Andrei's statement that Aphex and Autechre are the only AI-type IDMers that matter, I at least appreciate the sentiment. Even if you don't like all of their newer stuff, at least it's not a superficial imitation of someone else (I'm still trying to figure out why anybody bothers with Vladislav Delay and Aphelion). They're enriching a personal style from a diverse set of influences and you can hear & appreciate it in their output. -rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
