Carl Craig's designer music release is excellent
but in acutality it's more of a remix compilation
than an album. It features his remixes for a wide
variety of artists including incognito, inner
city, ron trent, united future organization,
spacetime continuum, johnny blas, alexander
robotnik, bt, and telex. Most of these remixes
were previously released on odd 12"s and
eps but there are a few new mixes in there as
well. The styles of his mixes vary from techno
to house to jazz but all with that excellent
detroit CC flavor so i highly recommend it.
A great way to catch up on your carl craig
remix collection without having to buy several
dozen releases to get them all! I only wish they
put his two Tori Amos remixes on there as well.
I was never able to get those for myself (not
that i'm a fan of Amos's music). I hear Carl
really works magic with them. All the mixes
on Designer Music have been release over the
past eight years or so - the ron trent mix came
out in 92 but most were in the past 5 years.
The Designer Music remix comp itself was just
released within the past two months on Carl's
own Planet E label.
Regarding Blake Baxter's recent Dream Sequence
album on Tresor, it's actually a remastered
re-release of his 1991 Tresor album of the same
name but with the five tracks from his Frequencies
12" (which came out on tresor a few months ago)
thrown is as a bonus. The tracks from the original
dream sequence lp are throwbacks to the early days
of detroit techno which, unfortunately, sound a
bit dated and/or ravey nowadays but the five newer
tracks from the recent tresor are quite good and
are very much in the vein of his H-Factor album
which came out on Disko B a few years ago. Ok
enough wordiness, here is the tracklisting to the
dream sequence re-release on tresor:
. Blake Baxter: dream sequence cd (Tresor)
Tracks:
- Ghost
- The Warning
- One Mo Time (Mix 1)
- Laser 101
- Ex-
- Dark Bässe
- Adrenalin
- One Mo Time (Mix 2)
- Frequency Old Skool
- Laugh and Dog
- Dreammaker
- 909 Shuffle
- Lasher 101 Rmx
- Adrenalin (Ciborg Rmx)
Blake Baxter will have a new full-length album
on tresor called Dream Sequence III released
in january.
