I mean when was the last time an IDM record really
surprised you ?

I wus listening to the new Fluxion 2CD at work and for
half a track I couldnt figure out if an off kilter
sound was coming from my speakers or somewhere else or
wus even music. Subtle and not a big deal but I wus
impressed. Besides that a Marumari mp3 used sounds
that threw me for a loop, odd structure too, really
impressed.
But yah if yr saying that many of the records I buy I
buy for sound and because I figure that Ill play them
often. I do buy records to occupy new sound and rhythm
space in my collection, but I dont buy many odd
records so that I can be bewildered once every 6
months. And Ill add my vote that Autechre is really
pushing things and there is a lag between a release
and until Im happy with how it fits into their
discography. They're right up there with the most
influential group because they have the most imitators
imo. I should work at changing my house music filter
technique of buying sounds that I like immediately or
that challenge me in a friendly way. But Im also sure
that theres no end to weird, loud, noisy, and non
rhythmic or loopy stuff.
If any of that made sense then thats my $0.02.
