I need help. Any info appreciated. I'm finding it difficult to discover any info on the sound of the following artists: Proem, Accelera Deck, Phonem, Aspen, Thomas & Ester Brinkmann, Fennesz, Funkarma, Freescha, Isan, Isol, Senor Coconut, Styrofoam, John Tejada, To Roccoco Rot. I've heard them mentioned on the list many times and feel like some of them really would be appreciated, though I've found almost no real audio or mp3 of them and none of my V/As includes them as well. I do understand that it is hard to describe a sound or give any correlations, however, I would like to ask for your assistance in defining what they actually play in order not to loose my money and time on listen&forget stuff. thx on advance Alien np. It's kinda like l'usine. DSP-based beats and nice melodies on the background. Not as catchy as the first l'usine album, but overall beautiful. The beats are faster and more distirted. Very nice.
quoted 1 line Phonem,> Phonem,
Chilled out melodic IDM with very long tracks. I'd place it somewhere between Arovane "Tides" and Ae "Tri Repetae". Some people find it boring, but I like it very much.
quoted 1 line Funkarma,> Funkarma,
Modern IDM with rather hard beats. Their EPs reminded me of latest Funkstorung works.
quoted 1 line Freescha, Isan,> Freescha, Isan,
These two pay much more attention to melody than to drum programming :) Both are *very* beautiful melodically, but most of the tracks are rather ambient than IDM. Isan has some very BoCish moments.
quoted 1 line Senor Coconut> Senor Coconut
Atom Heart's latino-style project. The latest album is a tribute to kraftwerk: full of mambo, samba, cha-cha-cha etc. covers of classic Kraftwerk songs. No IDM at all, but very nice and funny. If you like Locust's cover of "Master And Servant", you'll probably like this one. Sorry for comparing musicians with each other too often, no cloning accusations at all, I just think it's the best way to give the general idea of how do they sound. Senior Coconut was the guy from Craftwork and he moved to South America and he redid all his songs in this new persona.... I have also heard of other references to the alias 'Senior Coconut' but can't remember where it was at the moment. jl ----- Original Message ----- From: "Konstantin Minko" <ibss@ukrpack.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, December 06, 2000 4:39 AM Subject: [idm] Any recommendations?

I can speak to what Proem is all about, anyway. http://www.sonictherapy.com/str004.html has RealAudio of his interminably delayed Sonic Therapy release, _Certain Kinds of Tragedy_. And no, I don't expect it any time soon, given as how I paid rent and expect to be totally broke for a long time to come. In the meantime, you can find an exclusive MP3 at http://www.sonictherapy.com/audio.html - and if you ever should see me on Napster, you can grab an incomplete remix off me too (somebody did once, anyway) - it's another Secede remix, turns one of the tracks into a hiphop jam. Very cool. And then there's the _Too Many Cookies_ EP, which just came out at http://www.mono211.com - check that out too. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello everyone! Those of you who are into the kind of music that Zoviet France, Terre Thaemlitz, Muslimgauze are (were) producing, what recently released music of this kind could you recommend? Or not necessarily recent stuff, but just something that is a must hear. And one more thing. Thinking of Muslimgauze... This of course may sound stupid a bit, but maybe I just don't know.... Is there any other artist in electronic/experimental area creating music with such an extreme seriousity, having music as the most important goal? Thanks a lot!
