never open attachments - especially .exe files - even if it's from someone you know. Many viruses propagate quickly by sending themselves to everyone in a users address book (meaning that it can be sent by you to someone you know and received by you from someone you trust)
as an added precaution i personally keep no address book at all. it only takes an extra second or two to either type it by hand or search through your inbox for that elusive email addy.
i know this isn't really music related but since we're on a list with thousands of users it's better to be safe than sorry.
