New compilation from Kompakt, curated by Wolfgang Voight. I'm assuming the name translates as "Shuffle Fever" because all the tracks are in a loping 12/8 shuffle groove. It's a funny idea, like they're proposing a new dance craze. Anyway, the specific shuffle groove in question is that of various early '70's bubble-glam hits like T-Rex's "Hot Love" and Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll". Voight had already remixed "Hot Love" on his "Love, Inc." album awhile back, and it seems that he and some of his colleagues (M. Meyer at least) have an ongoing stray thought having to do with infusing severe minimal techno with arch allusions to teeny bopper music. I haven't singled out the best tracks yet. the frieland track seems to be a slight variation of a track on the Sub Rosa Vs. Kompakt album. the compilation hangs together as a whole and sounded great when I listened to it drunk at the end of a party. the couple of things I read about this album seemed to completely miss the point of what it was up to: 12/8. we return you to the Boards of Canada. kurt --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It always sounded to me like Voigt was using glam samples in his M:I:5 stuff. On a different note there's some Voigt 12" I have, can't remember which one, which has a track that's just a sample taken from Toni Braxton's "You're Makin Me High" looped ad infinitum. And what about Grungerman (?) 12" on Profan? Sounds like some german glam-rock or schlager samples were used... - jussi --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
