Ha! And IDM isn't? After 7 years of listening to this IDM stuff, it's really all starting to sound, to me, about as generally homogenous and unintelligent as any other genre. There are fucking amazing standouts and there's lots of innovative, groundbreaking stuff out there of course, but in general the DSP trickery and deconstructed d&b and too-much-percussion-in-a-measure stuff is getting pretty old and 9 times out of 10 the latest IDM release is eminently "predictable". The reason why IDM people often say they don't like house is that they usually have never EVER heard anything but mainstream, pop house. House, like IDM, drum and bass, soul, bluegrass, jazz, etc, is a rich, diverse genre with a long history full of some intelligent innovative music and lots of stupid derivative music - to generalize it in any way is simply ignorant (and in many cases it belies an underlying racism and homophobia, but let's not get into that, shall we?) Besides, all the IDM shows I've ever been to have been *full* of cute people with nice stylish clothes, although generally skinnier and more myopic than most crowds. ;) - Cf NP: Sister Sledge - "He's the Greatest Dancer" (Sister Sledge sings with Nile Rogers&Chic doing the music - unbefuckinglievable!) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
