November 2000
Hello
As fireworks stream the skies of the UK with our ancient November 5th firework rituals I nurse a flooded room from the incredible storms here last week and a body that has born a week of constant global time slippage with journeys across Australia, America, France and Spain all within a seven day framework. With a busy few weeks past there is little time for the present so back to the suitcase for further explorations.
As I may have suggested before my gloriously unconventional 'pop' album is completed under the name Scannerfunk, entitled Wave of Light by Wave of Light, due out in early 2001. A freshly fluttering single on seductive 12" vinyl should be out anyday now, 'Spinique' with exclusive remixes by Michael Wells / GTO & SFT / Simon Fisher Turner; accompanied by an amusingly entertaining video by Dfuse starring a digital dancing panda bear!
For my first ever major UK tour I shall be presenting a new multi media work with digital graphics artist Tonne. Each performance will be unique as we scavenge the aural and visual landscape around each show and journey to creative a voyeuristically controversial new work. I will also be reading from my diaries of the last 24 years according to the date of the show so expect some very personal revelations too, especially from those awkward Scannerteenage years. A limited edition CD to accompany the tour will be available at all the shows, 'Diary,' featuring unreleased exclusive material recorded in Montreal, Paris, New York, Belgium and Utrecht. You can also of course buy this mail order from the address below too. It will be the first in a series of mail order only CDs of more temporal work.
There will be an intriguing event over in Atlantac on November 17th at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (The Contemporary) : Mixer, a collaborative multimedia event. I will be performing alongisde Atlanta's own DJ Gnosis. The evening will also feature screenings of music videos by James Herbert, experimental film shorts by Stan Brakhage and a screening, with a live musical score, of an experimental short by multimedia group fascia.
Then back to the USA in December for an extraordinary event at Brooklyn Academy of Music for Bang on a Can's Marathon concert, where performers will include Bang on a Can All-Stars,
Iva Bittová, Phil Kline, David Lan, Steve Martland Band, Matthew Shipp Duo w/William Parker, Talvin Singh & Steven Schick, Lois V. Vierk & Pamela Z amongst countless others. Bring some sandwiches!
On a more minor note please note the adjustment of my email and website address to make things simpler for everyone. And as always if you don't wish to receive these very infrequent bulletins simply let me know.
Always appreciative of your emails and as ever thanks for the support.
Robin
