Definately give Geometry a few listens before you toss it aside. I didn't get into it until about the third try, probably because i wasn't listening to what I wanted to hear. I kept expecting Spectrum, but this album is not that. It's darker, more melancholy, and it's got thick gobs of acidic, mind-stomping rhythm. I didn't realize this until I saw him perform last night at the SIN festival on Chelsea Piers in NYC last night. The setting was perfect. It was in what I think was the boiler room of an old rusty boat that's been turned into a club spot. Very gritty and industrial for the sounds that Jega decided to play. He didn't play anything off Spectrum. Only the old stuff and the new stuff. And of those he selected, it was only tracks that would get people moving, jumping, and going mental for about an hour. It was a small intimate type performance, and Jega definately aimed to please. He didn't play any of those tracks where you would just stand and stare and drift into space because it just wasn't the time and place for that sort of thing. He blew out the sound system and a couple of his tracks shut down right in the middle. But nobody seemed to care. He just moved up a couple notches on my list of favs. Side notes: Phathalocyanine's performance was dark, sick, disturbing and great. Captial K was okay...but i'm just not really into his thing that much. Kid Spatula-ziq-enger was alright (loved Mr. Kirk's Nightmare in his set). Nicole Elmer was sweet rockin. And if anyone knows who closed out the night in the boat, speak up. His set was the DJ highlight of the night. Once he threw Cylob's Sex Machine on, it just went absoultely wildstyle from there. Well worth the money for a saturday night. geometry was what I was hoping for. I like a lot of spectrum but have never been ga ga over it. Geometry touches lot's of buttons for me musically. I like darker sounds I guess. I like his skam release (s?) a lot more than spectrum too though. if that means anything. If anyone's tossed it aside I sugest coming back to it in a week or so. The vinyl sounds great btw..150gram. steve --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
