Here's a name which doesn't get mentioned much here, but should. Dunno how long his latest (on Mute) has been out, but I was on one of my relatively rare real-world music shopping jaunts the other day when my friend (thanks Ed!) pointed it out to me. Being a long time Hiller afficianado (anyone remember Palais Schaumburg?), I grabbed it. Great stuff. It has the quirky, cacophonic edge (almost old skool industrial/orchestral) which earmarked his early solo material and a touch of the smooth production of the later material plus some contemporary beat structures to boot. It has a dark, dissonant streak - and as always, Hiller makes great use of his samples. -- jeff "10,000 people all screaming the same thing at the same time are wrong, even if they're right." dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." I saw the concert and, like you, I found the MC rather annoying. However, he did not have the "mc-ego-problem" and therefore he refrained from ruining the show with loads of (awfull/untalented) rap. Having said that, I must admit that he (in particular) managed to involve the audience in a way that most of the other electronic acts didn't. And the thing was, that they (the 3 of them) seemed to have a great time (smiling and laughing on stage), which also made it more amusing being in the audience. At the end of the show a guy from the audience came onto the stage to dance to a track with frantic and fast beats - and he managed (though it got a bit borring watching after a minute or so). But then the guy wanted to do a "human-beatbox", and it turned out that he was rather talented, which Mikael Fakesch and Chris DeLuca also noticed, so one of them (can't remember who) started jamming on the decks while the other started plotting in a new track on the sequncer. And it was imo this part of the show, which really revealed just how talented they are; I've never before seen any electronic artists improvise in such a spontaneous manner and still managed to catch a groove. btw: Did anyone else see the Oval concert? Personally I didn't find it all that exciting (which, I believe, was partly due to soundquality). dennis --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This is spoken in danish, actually. Not german. The concert is obviously broadcast by some danish radio station. This is more or less what the danish radio presenter says: Mikael Fakesch hails from Rosenheim near Munich in southern Germany. Chris DeLuca is half italian and runs a successful record store in Munich. Their relation to german noise and industrial music is quite obious in their peculiar music. That they have heard the veterans Einst?rzende Neubauten from Slovenia is clear. (The radio presenter is wrong here! Einst?rzende Neubauten are from germany). Funkst?rung nicely updates the genre, inspired by great names, such as Aphex Twin and Autechre. Funkst?rung use computers, but create their music on special tone generators, old synthesizers and drum machines. Even if Funkst?rung still are underground, they have done remixes for many established artists, such as Wu-Tang Clan, A Guy Called Gerald, Philip Boa and Bj?rk. Finding your way around Funkst?rungs own production is hard. They release ep:s and albums on their own label Musik aus strom, and on Bunker records, Compost records, and most recently the album Appetite For Distruction on K7. In this live set from Roskilde 2000, Funkst?rung are backed up by the Dutch MC Vigilance. /P --- NuBreaks <freqdafunk@flashmail.com> wrote:
