Hullo all,
After receiving a copy of Yunx's ``Billodyssey'' on the now defunct
Void way, way back I was instantly hooked. Soulful string layers and
beautiful melodies behind a breaky rhythm layer. After that I was inflated
like a balloon by ``Cyclomethicone'' on the ``0161'' compilation. I have
to get a second copy of the compilation since the disc was accidentally
scratched exactly at the position where ``Cyclomethicone'' is.
Just recently I obtained copies of Yunx's self-titled CDR on Meson Octet
and the Yunx/Datathief split 12" on Pitchcadet, and I was not disappointed.
The split 12" is a bit more difficult than the Meson Octet CDR, but both
of them are essential for IDM fans. Especially the CDR, since it follows
the path of ``Billodyssey'' and ``Cyclomethicone'' - endearing yet
danceable tracks of emotionally charged well-crafted electronic music.
The packaging for the CDR is rather unusual, a piece of ribbed plastic
mat with a piece of red and blue felt inside, glued together from the
sides. The CD itself is in a small plastic sleeve, and there is a piece of
paper with somewhat undecipherable information (track listing etc.) and a
sticker. The CDR is painted black and gray.
The Datathief side of the Pitchcadet 12" was a bit of a disappointment,
I was somewhat expecting a similar electro workout as with ``Advanced
Social Engineering'' on the Rice And Beans compilation. But it'll grow on
me, I'm sure.
If you have or haven't heard Yunx before, grab the Meson Octet CDR while
you can. It is (subjectively, of course) one of the best releases yet this
year. From what I could decipher from the information sheet, the track
listing is Biddie/Fim/Holborn/Inbound/Nam/Detra/Molk; if anyone has a
differing opinion, send me a private note.
Cheers,
