Planet Mu Good to hear the positive feedback about Mu at the first Pi (Phonic Investigations) event in Bristol on Friday. One of my endearing memories of the evening was the two middle-aged, sartorial-deluxe women, complete with clutchbags, who seemed to have slipped through a portal in the space-time continuum from Saturday's R&B & Garage night, dancn' sexy to Hellfish & Producer's crunching gabba with Leafcutter John jamming live squealing glitch-fuzz on top. Wicked. The anglo-asian guy was Nik from Blast Theory - his body is made of a hyper- rubber-like material as yet unknown to science. -- Push Button Objects / Foehn / Barkertrax / Tequa from Helsinki Pi's next excursion takes place on Thursday, 9 October at Bristol's Cube Cinema featuring the above artists in addition to a veritable smorgasbord of visual delights. PBO: phunkin. saynomore. Foehn (Fat Cat, Swarf Finger): a real treat brought in on the barren winds - rare DJ set of influences and current flavours. Barkertrax (Stten Aggregates): live set of extreme abstract mineral mining: angular and amorphous mutations traversing a wide textural spectrum. Oh yes. Tequa from Helsinki: Have we discovered this guy or has anyone else heard this shit? Hip-hop turntablism meets drone, pops, clicks, cuts, fuzz and salami. Gourmet. 8pm - 12am £5 (Advance Tix from Imperial Music: 0117 987 9700 -- TBC: Gescom / DAT Politics / Rex Hasselhoff (Oil Experts) Pi, Platform One, Bristol Thursday, 7 December 9.00 - 2.00 £5 Pi (Phonic Investigations) is a relatively new host to leftfield audio/visual artists from around the globe. It has a monthly residency at Bristol's Platform One with special one-offs at The Cube Cinema. Mixing live acoustic and digital performances with sets from guest DJs, poets and magicians the vibe is cozy and experimental. Animal-costumed lap dancers coming soon. From January 2001, Pi will take place on the last Friday of every month.
