Hello All, I'm just really starting to swim in this IDM thing and was looking for a firm library to get started with. From what I've discovered so far there a few artists that are sticking with me right now. Richard James' material is what really hooked me and subsequently I've gone on to discover Squarepusher, Autechre, Amon Tobin, plaid, and various other artists that may not necessarily be considered IDM but are quite sticky nonetheless.Depending on my mood my tastes vary. Sometimes I'm in the mood for some hard D&B sometimes for some really chil ambient, and sometimes for something anywhere in between.I would consider my library to be rather lacking right now and I guess I'm just looking for suggestions, old and new, for good music to bring into my life. I see names being thrown out all the time but I don't have the funds to sample all of them. I guess all Im looking for is a reply with one artist/album that in your mind stands the test of time and in fact is blurring time in it's own way. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Two recommendations: Psyche/BFC _Elements 89-90_ (Planet E) - this is Carl Craig and is some of his best work Disjecta _Clean Pit and Lid_ (Warp) - Mark Clifford of Seefeel on an exceptionally fantastic full-length that references Tri-Repatae era Autechre while still being brutal and ambient at the same time Hope those two very different records help. I really appreciate all of the input received. I guess that the excitement in electronic music and all music for that matter, is the hunt. There is nothing quite like hearing something for the first time and having it not sound like something you've heard before and to me the only logical next step is to actually start creating my own sounds to etch into life. On a side note,if anyone in the Austin,TX area has a lowdown on where the good stuff is being played around here it would be much appreciated. I hear the underground is still around in this world, and it seems to me that the UG is where the good stuff is coming from, but right now I can't seem to find it.Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough? The so called "parties" around here seem intriguing at first glance but as I look deeper they are not the parties I really want to be going to and I rarely hear of any of the artists mentioned on this list coming through Texas, is there a reason for that? Much Appreciation tist2@hotmail.com

yeah, it's easy to explain why they avoid texas, and the hint is that he's running for prez :) actually, i think the only reason they avoid texas is because there isn't a nice chain going TO texas. sure, texas is nice, but outside a certain city in louisiana, there's not much there. florida, maybe, but who wants to make electronic music in florida?! ;) it's the same reason that minneapolis gets shunted. unless an artist hits up madison, WI, chicago is usually the last stop on the tour west, before cali. arg. cheers, /derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
