It's tough to say which are best (far too many good ones), but I like: 1. Kid Koala - Scratchcratchratchatch - "I would just like to start out by saying that if Shakespeare were alive today he would be well over 400 years old." Don't know why. Just makes me chuckle when the guy says it. and 2. Luke Vibert - Studio Sessions Vol 1 Track 2 - "The kick goes boom, the snare goes pop..." To anyone who has heard all of track 2 from this album, you gotta give props to Luke for creating some of the phatest vocal sampling around. I also like "Bust the beat" and his use of Digable Planets set to flute loop. By far the best though is when he starts fuckin with one of the best (and longest) uses of onomatopoeia in songs. Absolutely golden. Also, for anyone who's heard the track, is there some kind of congruency between the baselines and melody samples? Every drumbeat he uses is the Beastie Boys, I know that, but in addition to Flute Loop (as melody) I managed to spot some PE (I think) and others. Cheers PS. Where does that "The kick goes boom..." sample come from? Also who is the MC on track 3? I've heard Mos Def sample "The more emotion I put into it the harder I rock" before. (And speaking of good samples, Mos Def has plenty). _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. that track has one of my favorite beats ever. i don't know if it has a "name" but it was also used in Hedfunk's excellent "Dark Lady." there's a slight stutter in the snare that just makes it gel. yay breaks discussions on idm!

he uses a HELL of a lot from Run-DMC's "Tougher Than Leather" LP. in fact, an inordinate amount of those samples come from just a few Run-DMC, Fat Boys, Beasties and EPMD records. most of those Fat Boys samples come from the interludes between tracks on the LP where they're basically just getting the giggles on tape. then there's the track where he uses all the video games samples, the punchline being he stole most of them from the Buckner and Garcia LP about video games. the crappy synth strings behind the "Berserk" samples are a dead giveaway :)

that would be the Prince Marky D, from the infamous Fat Boys (nee Disco 3). i wish it weren't so, but "Fat Boys are Back" was the first hip hop record i ever bought, so those three clown's voices are ingrained in my psyche until i can get my memory erased at Rekall. Also who is

if you mean the "Dance to the speakers till your head explodes. . ." bits, it's either sermon or parrish from EPMD. either way they're Making Dollars :) i *think* the original was just given the remix treatment on Higher Education (US domestic label), but i'm not certain. ------------ 1642 try 621 ------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The dance to the speaker sample is still on track 2, and I think (but am not totally certain) that it's Eric B and Rakim off Pump Up The Volume, not EPMD. If it isn't then Eric B and Rakim are sampled right afterward. "Dance to the speaker till your head explodes, plug in the headphones, cause here we go." and then a little bit (read: lots) of stutter added to "Pump up the volume". I got the answer to my question though, it's OC on track 3 supposedly, thx for the info. Also, does anyone know how one could get a hold of studio sessions on vinyl? Obviously I've only seen it mp3'd. I suppose the only way would be to do a custom run. Shame about clearing samples, because of that this album will never be released, even though it's the best (IMHO) of Viberts work. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
