Ralf Wehousky(sp?), who used to be part of P16.D4, I believe. There is an excellent label called Selection that put out some of the best SBOTHI (Swimming Behaviour Of The Human Infant) and P16.D4 that I bought from the gracious Ralph Hausman, whom I mentioned in my Reynolds-style joke about Lance the other day.

It is uncanny that this should come up on this list, as I was actually going to recommend anyone interested in early industrial avant stuff check out the Elephant Table Album compilation (Coil works quite a nice atmosphere with just bass guitar and 808 on "S is for Sleep") and download the mp3's at http://www.obsolete.com/qualk. To anyone interested in these experimentalists, I recommend the lps "Government Is My Soul" and "Preparing for Power". I imagine that if you weren't into this stuff to one degree already, you might have a hard time getting into it as it is so lo-fi, cassette-culture fidelity. The tools and technology was different 10-15 years ago, so, well... some of it is quite amazing though. Bourbonese Qualk had a really excellent drummer at one point, such that they arrived at a combination of atmospheric funk/noise that was up there with Cab Voltaire and pre-85 400Blows... BTW, I taped a 93? Bourbonese Qualk show just after they started getting techno-ey...kind of predates some of the minimalism of chain-reaction-type stuff in terms of just purely percussion... I'll have to re-listen...

Korm also put out the earliest BeeQueen 12"s and some Pink Dots-related stuff. I've been revisiting the LPDots' mid 80's stuff recently. Quite a lot of orchestration completely untouched in most of the electronic music going on now "So Gallantly screaming" "15 Flies in the Marmalade" and "The Gallery" are quite detailed and humorous and composed...

They really had their own kind of atmosphere, IMO. I think that the funk/noise/tapes thing of the early 80's was a similar mentality to the ensemble music of Thrill Jockey in recent years. It is kind of an interest in musicality and texture, but trying to steer clear of prog/rock and instead pass thru weird pop, funk, jazz, krautrock... Last month I was asking if anyone had any Executive Slacks (earliest), Smersh, and that sort of thing... these bands were contemporary to Bour Qualk and

could somebody just point me at a realaudio mix of all this stuff please? Solenoid --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I 2nd that. BQ is the shit and I always wondered why they never hit it"big" like others in their realm. Upon meeting the main man, Simon Crab, I found out why: total anarchist. He jus didn't want to be "famous." he said. hmmm. Suppose living in a squat in Sarf Lundun is better than gettin' paif. It's all about the principles.

Oooh, I'd love to hear that one.

Again, they were spectacular. UNPOP is a good one too, and Autonomia the techno-y one.
