having purchased cichilsuite within the past year or so, i was wondering what the reaction was like on this list when it first came out. my initial reaction was one of confusion just as when i first purchased ep7 because my only experience with autechre had been tri repetae++ and incunabula. however ep7 rarely leaves my rotating cds to listen to and cichlisuite and delighting me at this very moment. Personally I think that 'Krib' from cichli suite is one of autechre's best songs... does anyone have any guess as to what the original sound they play around with in there is? i don't know how Ae created it, but you can re-create it by holding two pint-sized beer glasses at the tops and letting them bounce against each other at the bottom. no processing necessary! phase --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yup, I just spent the last twenty minutes playing around with two glasses. It is definitly how they made the sound. Funny how we all assumed it was electronic... I believe it was voted EP of the year by the list. turk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

No, Im not sure what that sound is...though Ive had some wild speculations at times..heh. I have a similar question about the sound used in Pir off EP7. That watery banging sound in the background. Sounds to me like they took cardoors underwater and hit them with sledge hammers. Anyone have any ideas? I have gotten similar 'underwater' sounds playing around with granular synthesis. If I'm correct, it has something to do with the grain density being high enough to create some kind of phasing/flanging??? corrections? Pir is well composed/programmed, and the sounds are completely organic and beautiful... I have one example where I clearly used c-sound and granular synthesis to create torn apart ragged beats at www.vfs.com/~manderso/files/proun.mp3 I won't deny that it sounds influenced by autechre (because it is), but I don't think it is completely unoriginal... Please check it out if you like ep7... Does anyone else have anything that sounds ep7-ish? I'd love to hear it! -Matt- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I wasn't on the list at the time, but when the single came out, I remember being a little bit dissapointed in that it wasn't as complex and involved and irritating as Chiastic Slide. But over time it has certainly grown on me and now I consider it a great companion piece to that album and the rest of their catalog.

I'm pretty sure it's the metal ball inside a can of spray paint. krib being slang for signature. krib = tagging w/ spray paint... one of their old hobbies. -Andrew --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sure - they went over to the nearest Laundry parlor and had some fun with an MD recorder and the washing machines... =P (No, I _really_ mean that... ;) -- Kurt Pruenner - Haendelstrasse 17 - 4020 Linz - Austria http://www.mp3.com/Leak - http://www.ssw.uni-linz.ac.at np: Pole - Taxi (3) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

possible, but i managed to imitate the sound in Krib -exactly- by tapping the bottoms of two glasses against eachother. bye r --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
