Hello. Anyone else out there had any disc rot problems with Chain Reaction titles? I just whipped out my Vladislav Delay "Multila" and Monolake "Hong Kong" to find patches of discolouring on the surface of the discs. This has become a nice legend: Chain Reaction CDs made decaying on purpose. (Heh, then my CD-R copies will outlive them)

My monolake's fine, thank goodness... but mind those horrid boxes!! Be warned : repack in plastic jewel cases for safekeeping to avoid cracks. It's been said before, but bears repeating. I don't think the CR/BC/M packaging is that big of a deal. I've owned a bunch of those CDs for years and I haven't had/seen any problems. You just have to be careful, like when you're pulling them out of the case, otherwise I don't see how the cases can be damaging to the CDs. I do have a friend whose Porter Ricks CD basically broke in 2 though. I think that happened from pulling on the sides of the CD too forcefully while the middle section wouldn't come loose from the case. Andrei On Wed, 27 Sep 2000, Irene McC wrote:

You've been exceptionally lucky. However cool those cases may look, their design is shear idiocy: relying of the flexibility of the CD to hold it to an inflexible metal post puts an enormous amount of stress on it. The disc-distroying properties of these cases has been reported here on many occasions, and I've personally had two discs irretrievably damaged by storage in these cases. The center post in these cases varies a bit in size -- I've seen some where the disk just slips off, and others where the fit was so tight that the disk arrived with a major crack. Jewel cases are cheap, while some of the CR disks are nearly impossible to find these days. can't answer this myself (as i don't have any chain reaction cds), but for those who buy vinyl and like chain reaction: i can recommend highly the doublepack (10 tracks over 4 sides of vinyl, not sure if it is also out on cd) from fluxion. it's chain reaction # 32 and i think it is relatively recent, but i can't say for sure. (the store where i buy stuff deals with distributors that don't seem to be "totally on the ball" so i never know if a record they get in here is a new record (ie just released) or just a *new to the store* record that they just got in that came out a while ago; it can get frustrating when i say "order this for me as soon as you see it on a release sheet" before a forthcoming release comes out, but then, because of distributor problems, i'm left waiting (and waiting and waiting) for certain things. here in halifax, i'm *still* trying to get vinyl copies of the twerk and sutekh and jake mandell albums on force inc; not the fault of the store here, but the fault of the distributors they deal with. the store has a *huge* "want list" from me, and it's all stuff that should be easy to obtain (it's nothing that is limitededitionimpossibletoget). andrew duke Mark Stevens wrote:

Is it just my copy of Multila, or did all of those come in a NaturePac cardboard/plastic hybrid?
