This reminds me of a question I've always had... If you have more than one sampler, and you use Soundforge to send samples to your sampler, how do you tell SoundForge to send to a specific sampler? I have an ESI32 with a limited 2 outputs, and I'm thinking about picking up another sampler for obvious reasons. Also, how do most of you transfer your samples? midi, scsi, analog? -----Original Message----- From: Softerandthicker@aol.com [mailto:Softerandthicker@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, September 24, 2000 8:15 AM To: daniellee@trashaesthetics.freeserve.co.uk; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] Akai s* and EIIIs "I know this is a really nerdy question but does anyone ever use more than 8MB on a track. I certainly haven't and I've never known anyone who has needed more even if they have 2 or 3 samplers running with 20 outputs. Why do people need the 128MB + sample RAM they have on all the new EMU's and AKAIs?" I don't have to reload between tracks. When I was using the Emax-II to play live there was always an awkward moment when I needed to change samples. Usually I disguised it with some other racket, but it was a hassle for me. Besides, having lots of room for samples, programs, multis, etc., lets me keep loads of different loops and sounds in the machine at any given time. It leaves me more room for experimentation. I can sample large chunks of audio and then beat it up later without having to worry about how much room I have left in the akai. I was always running into problems as far as space is concerned with the Emax-II. I still use it in the studio to process audio, etc., but live I'm all over the akai. For just hits and beats 8 megs will get you through the day, but for some reason i like more. dE3 www.polyrhythmic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

by only having one plugged in...?

well besides the fact that transferring audio via MIDI is a) impractical and b) slow and c) impossible on most samplers, i'd recommend either scsi or analog. midi stuff is just midi data, so.. yeah. and scsi is once-removed - you save to a scsi thing and then transfer the thing to your computer, unless you have your sampler hooked up directly, in which case it's likely better than analog. analog has the option of just plugging in the sampler, but then you have to think about loss of quality, which may or may not happen/be noticible. cheers, /derek - - - - - - - "Extremism is no vice when God's on your side" -Opus the Penguin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
