I went out to see Oval here in Ottawa. Granted, Ottawa is a lame place to see stuff; Scanner played to maybe a dozen or two people and Merzbow lost money here. So, I wasn't surprised that there was no one there. Maybe 20 people. Empty club. Popp got on stage like 3 hours late (everyone waited outside). He played his set and the sound was too rumbly and all the texture was kinda lost, though the music was interesting for a while. Then it dragged on a bit and I started losing interest. He finished, and left a loop running and just closed up his powerbook and packed his equipment while the sound was still going off the mixer. He just ignored everyone (who sat quietly watching what he was doing) and just packed his stuff. When the sound shut off because he unplugged the last piece of gear everyone clapped appreciatively for a while, but he acknowledged no one. People then approached him and tried to tell him his set was good, but he ignored them as if they weren't there (even though they were talking to him from 1 meter away). He then walked past everyone, right by them, not even acknowledging that they had waited patiently and wanted to talk to him, and went outside with his gear back to his hotel. His manager (or the label guy or whomever) was at least gracious and said 'bye guys have a good night' to everyone. On principle, I recommend you don't go, so Popp doesn't get any money. :) I mean, so the show was badly organised in a shitty club and no one came. You think he could at least make an effort to be nice to the people who came out, paid their hard earned cash, waited out in the cold and bought CDs and came to tell him he was good and maybe ask a question or to. AT LEAST he could have said something. If he was mad, he could have at least said "Sorry guys, I can't really talk right now" or something, but no, NOTHING. As if we weren't even there. So, unless your mum died 5 minutes before the show, FUCK YOU MARKUS POPP... I would have driven to see you in Montreal, but this is the last time I give any of my time and money to a rude prick who doesn't respect his audience enough to even acknowledge their presence when they talk to him directly; paying him a complement no less. At least Robin Rimbaud was cordial enough to thank the 15-25 people who came out for showing up and didn't take out his disappointment on the fans that did make it. How was the music? Uh, not bad, but the whole thing left such a bitter taste in my mouth, I don't even care. Luckily the Ryoji Ikeda show I saw three days ago more than made up for this...

this part made me really lough out loud. imagining markus saying "Sorry guys, I can`t really talk right now" is just too good .... ;) well. sounds like a nice performace to me typical oval style. cu bleed --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
