hey all, Firstly, a partial answer for the person asking about Mau (from Earthling) being in the Dirty Beatniks (Wall Of Sound big-beat-ers.) As far as i know or can work out, Mau is in a new incarnation of the band, as evidenced by this interview: http://www.sceneone.co.uk/s1/cd/feature/id5428 ..but i'm pretty sure he wasn't in earlier versions of the band, which were around when Earthling (and also Cuba, another band, weirdly signed to 4AD, who had Mau in them for a while!) were around.. For those who know little/nothing about Mau and Earthling, Earthling were probably the forgotten children of the whole Bristol explosion, and are very, very under-rated - think veryveryverysurreal British triphop/hiphop with genius vocals, somewhat like the Justin Warfield rap on "Bug Powder Dust" by Bomb The Bass, but not quite as fucked-up as people like New Kingdom got. Earthling seemed straight, drugs+alcohol-wise but weird as hell - oh, and also had a great T-shirt that said 'Earthling - Quality Sandwiches' for no apparent reason. Their only album was called 'Radar', btw, and is well worth hunting down. On a related note, has Justin Warfield ever done anything as good as that genius "Bug Powder Dust" rap? All I know about him is that he's insanely quality-variable, and a bunch of his other albums are straight-out rock, just to confuse us all.. not strictly idm, but you'll let me go just this once, right? h0l. ps - look, idm content here - firstly, new Vom release on Monotonik (freely downloadable mp3 as per usual) at: http://www.mono211.com/content/releases/mtkmp35.html ..Vom is Vim's drone-rock-noise alter-ego, and the track, "Untitled000", is, well.. pretty close to the edge. And includes Billy Ray Cyrus. No joke. Checkit. pps - the "Supermariountwirled" Mario remixes EP, released via Monotonik and starring a bunch of the people from this list, got quite a nice write-up on beatz4geekz.com - lookee here: http://www.b4g.com/news/n_28.html _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
