could be... I do recall the tune in another version (with vocals)... probably Bomb the Bass... Should dig that up. And yep, only two tracks are being played. One which is more say idm-based while the other one features such typical seventies analague synth. Futher more there are some other soundings which basically come back all through the movie and always seem to be kind of diffrent intro to the basic theme. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Apparently the laser disc offers the complete sound track on an alternative channel. The DVD does not. The film is in mono.... don't know if the soundtrack on the laser disc is. This got me thinking : I watched the tail end of Escape from New York the other night on TV and really liked the soundtrack. So I sat through all the tedious credits until the music ones came up right at the very very end... as they do ... and was surprised to see John Carpenter himself had done the music (together with somebody else; name escapes me). I've since been told he's scored most of his own movies. Is this true? Are they available as soundtracks? If so, do they "work" without the visuals? What a clever boy! Escape from New York is an incredible soundtrack. Very dark. Alot of it you might consider electro. I really kind of wonder what influenced him. They just recently repressed the soundtrack on 180 gram vinyl. I know he's done other soundtracks including the also excellent Halloween series. - cutups ----- Original Message ----- From: "Irene McC" <substar@iafrica.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Cc: <idm-m@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2001 2:26 PM Subject: [idm] john carpenter

escape from new york is available on remastered cd via varese sarbende on vinyl from dagored with dialogue clips. (i have both) halloween is everywhere via varese sarbende. assault on precincnt 13 i can't find anywhere but would love to. that soundtrack rules. recently, i saw withcman live and he played a very nice breakbeat/dub version of the title track. also, octagon man does a version some years back.. the thing is music by morriccone, not carpenter, but still influenced by him. very scary. still looking for the fog, big trouble in little china, dark star, etc. i'll skip escape from la as i hope everyone would. also, ignore elvis the movie--it blows. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That's what the above is referring to, so sometimes.

Yes, you are- it was done by Ennio Morricone. On a search of years for that CD I happened to just luck upon one day at a Barnes and Nobles, of all places. And the soundtrack to Dune at the same time, no less. Both supposedly ages out of production. If you can find it somewhere, get it.
