Hmmm... Sorry to bother everybody with that again, but I just believe that each Ae record is like a compilation of tracks from a certain period. That means that there's bound to be a couple of so-so tracks on each release, but that also means that in terms of musical capacities, each new record should be the best, or if you prefer, the most groundbreaking! So long live EP7... I really believe that its track number 8 is one of the best electronic music song ever made : beautiful Bass sound! Having said that, I must alow some subjectivity ;), and I'd say my favourite album is Chiastic Slide and its companion Sickly Sweet, just for the 3rd track on the album "Tewe", the longest drum loop I've ever heard... Have would your children grow up like if raised up with this? I'd say my favourite Ep would be Anvil Vapre... I like them all, but that one is the most violent, and it's really surprising, if not difficult to get into... Mixture of electro, dub, Industrial à la Coil... Masterpiece... Then again, you might think I'm a snob, but I honestly believe that their strong point is remixing! Everybody knows that now, except for the Stereolab remix, each remix they did is 99% an Ae track! So my vote would then go to : 1 - Lexis Ae remix at 33RPM 2 - Dominique Dalcan Ae remix 3 - Medium Ae remix on 7 Hills Clash You see, my family and most of my friends don't care at all about that kind of music, but that Lexis remix at 33RPM (Not as on the CD version which runs at 45RPM) seems to be magic : everybody seems to find severel ways of listening to it. The most Unfunctional track ever made? I mean it as the highest compliment I could make =) Even if it lacks of production, they seem to have there found a really human feeling, even if that's one of their usual Monotony trick... In that perspective, there seems to be some kind of receipt for a certain kind of tracks Ae compose (A most effective, might I add): Crunchy Madness beats, modest but rich melody getting in, the beat slows down or gets more to the core of its internal structure, apparition of harmonic drones keyed to the melody, and then, everything fades away or gets more minimal till there's just the ghost of a melody, if not just the drone... I know I might just be thinking too much, but I'm sick of all those people who believes that all this IDM music comes from the Laptops... Sure there are many bands "composing" Powerbook music, but at the end, everything sounds the same : Electro break-beat in a "Glitchy-Parasite Sounds" Madness, hiding the very basic structure of the tracks... Sorry if I bothered you with all these thoughts, I didn't paln any of this, but isn't this list SOMETIMES dedicated to discussion? Okay then... Back to my Peter lang, John Fahey and Georges Brassens Lps =) Cicerobuck cicerobuck@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
