Old news, but I find this disc unfulfilling. The songs are either very
sparse or either overdone (i.e. orchestration to the hilt). Her previous
singles, I thought, showed great promise - _Ballbreaker/Some Other
Level_, _Melodious Thunk_ - all were diverse representations of a broad
listening experience (and two tracks from them show up on this album).
And then/now _Kiss My Arp_ sounds like poorly done Depeche Mode. I
respect her desire to create an album that reflects her influences while
expressing what she has to say, but this one seems to say "major label"
all over it. It's almost as if rather than make an electronic album with
pop music in it she made a pop album with electronic music in it.
Bizarre pop, to be sure, but pop nonetheless (notice how her voice is
mixed much higher than it's backing tracks?). Is the Mo' Wax
instrumental album any better?
