I am sorry for littering this list with a simple query but I don't want to subscribe to the idm making list just yet. I am buying a synth when I get my paycheque next week and am looking at either a Roland jx3p or jx8p. Both come with the PG add on, but the 3p is about $75 cheaper. If anyone has had experience with both of these, I would love to hear which one you prefer. Thanks. ===== The Situationists maintained that ordinary people have all the tools they need for revolution. The only thing missing is a perceptual shift - a tantalizing glimpse of a new way of being - that suddenly brings everything into focus. - Kalle Lasn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? definitely jx8p. the programmer is totally different and quite valuable. it is the only one in that series that outputs the fader moves as sysex through the midi out. this is a cool feature as it means you can record your fader moves and layer/sequence them. it also means you can save your patches easily with your sequences. if you want to go a bit deeper and have a decent sequencer, you can probably filter the programmer output and use it as a general hardware controller for other synths.+ jx8p sounds ten times better than the jx3p - very warm and fat. the envelopes aren't too refined as they are early digital (source is analog), also the filter does not self oscillate but it is still probably the next best roland synth to a midi'd jupiter 8 (which it replaced).
