IDM,
So I'm intrigued by this whole "beta bodega
coalition" dealie. On their website they have a show
scheduled featuring Funkstorung, which impresses my
feeble little mind.
None the less, I am confused by them and I solicit
IDMers(or members of BBC) to clarify the situation.
After a thorough purusal of the their website I have
gleaned the following information:
1. They have Members: Tupac Amaru, Datathief, needle,
hamijama, tpm, ruminhaui, function, counterpoint, lord
sp... etc.
2. They release records...
3. They have left of center politics...
4. They host club nights (revolutionary club nights?)
5. They have a cryptic website.
So I guess my intitial inquiry is:
1. Has anybody gone to one of these events they
sponsor? Was it revolutionary?
2. What is the sincerity level of the politics
involved? (Did any of you out there listen to Nation
of Ulysses back in the day? Is Beta Bodega a high-tech
version of NoU? Are they like Underground Resistance?)
3. What, if any, are the goals and ambitions of
BetaBodega coalition?(to be a rocking record label or
lead a revolution?)
4. Oh yeah, what does the music sound like?
Personally, I think music-discussed-on-this-list could
use a more overtly political edge. (see ps for
elaboration on this comment). Most of the stuff
discussed on this list is hardly played in clubs
anyways, so there isn't much of risk of alienating
people.
Since I saw a Beta Bodega post on this website
not-to-long-ago, I'm fairly certain that members are
on this list and I invite them to lay down a manifesto
(or two)...
Scott
PS: By "more overtly political edge" I am not
referring to adding lyrics that rail against corporate
power. That has been done.
