I just picked up what looks to be a year-old Instict compilation of artists on the Ninja Tune label (entitled _Trip Hop and Jazz_). Could someone recommend any other full-length CD releases with Ninja material?

Ummm... I may be stating the obvious here, but how about 'Ninja Cuts - Funkjazztricknology'. Lots of DJ Food, including an Attica Blues mix; Colcut; 9 Lazy 9 and so on. Actually, while I'm here, something I've been meaning to ask: is/are DJ Food and Coldcut one and the same? If not, what's the connection between them, cos they seem intertwined somehow. I also noticed my brother has an old INXS song with a Coldcut mix on it, which accredits the mixing to Mixmaster Morris too. Was/is he involved, or was this a one-off thing? Now I think of it, I reckon there's an Irresistable Force remix on the 'Autumn Leaves' 12"... Indeed there is, and great it is too. Don't think MM was ever a member of Coldcut - Coldcut is Matt Black and Jonathon More and always has been, but there are obviously links. What are those Coldcut boys up to? They are more Chameleon-like than the Soupdragons :) I got a few of their early releases, "This Greedy Beat" for one, they used to have a stamp on, saying "Sorry, but this just isn't music", then they went chartwise with Yazz and Lisa Stansfield. The next time I saw them they were doing slow poppy dance (Autumn Leaves?), and now they're doing trip-hop!! Not dissing them, just remarking. Is their trip-hop stuff any good? Rob.

Well the free CD wih DJ some months back had a 30 minute mix of Nunja Tune stuff on and it's good stuff. The DJ Food EP I have with the Autechre remix on is excellent too. Now I don't know exactly how deep the personal involvement of the guys is in each Ninja Tune release, but there's loads of it out there

Just picked up "Down to the Roach" on Step 2, a really AMAZING Trip-Hop comp w/ a track by More/Black (ColdCut, DJ Food, Hex, and God only knows what other psuedonyms). The standout track is the last one, a remix by Global Communication that is the most soulful thing I've heard from them. Kinda like "Funk in the Fridge", only deeper. Very jazzy (they actually play a solo in 6/8). I'd pay US$20 for just this track, but the whole disc is excellent. "TEEX4" has a coupla More/Black tracks, I think. "Earthrise: Ntone "1 is a Ninja Tune comp available domestically on Instinct which I'm goin' to look for tomorrow. Is there a maillist devoted to TripHop and or DrumNBass (was Jungle) ? Has anyone heard the "Jungle Book" comp on Reinforced? Chill Che

There's the breaks list. It's mostly jungle/drumnbass talk with a smattering of happy hardcore. I don't recall seeing anything about triphop unless it was passing reference to a jungle remix or something. To sub, mail majordomo@xmission.com body-of-message: subscribe breaks (i think, anyway) Maybe there should be a list for triphop considering all the new releases coming out every week (I picked up like 12 records this last week). Tracks that spring to mind are the DJ Food/Herbaliser promo 12", the new Disciples on Cup of Tea (definitely more on the dub tip) and the very satisfying AIM - Pacific North West EP on Grand Central (GC102). -- wallace winfrey wally@nicar.org "sometimes we live no particular way but our own" *robert hunter*

Does anyone know how rare the DJ Food box set is that came out around 1994 (I think) as Im thinking of auctioning it off and I need to work out a reserve. It contains 3 - 2X12" Packs and contains about 20 remixed tracks from the likes of coldcut, autechre, squarepusher, skint, DJ vadim, Wagon Christ Etc. Etc. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I've seen some of these at gramaphone in chicago in the bins as well as a couple of other places. "Refried Food" is the name of the comp. for anyone else wondering. 6 plates of amazing food for the skull. -m --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
